When I introduced the social-emotional reading books, they immediately gathered around, eager to hear the stories and connect with the characters. During read-aloud time, many of them began making personal connections, sharing their own feelings and experiences. It was beautiful to watch them identify emotions like happiness, frustration, and kindness, and begin to use those words in their everyday conversations. The books have opened the door for meaningful class discussions about how to manage big feelings and how to treat others with respect and empathy.\r\n\r\nThe Canopy tent quickly became our favorite \"Calm Corner.\" When the students first saw it set up in the classroom, their eyes lit up with excitement. We talked together about how this special space is used for calming our bodies and minds when we need a quiet moment. Paired with our new social-emotional toys—such as sensory tools and calming manipulatives—students are learning healthy strategies for self-regulation. One special moment was watching a student choose to go to the tent independently after feeling frustrated, use a calming toy, and return ready to learn. That was a proud teacher moment!\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are continuing to build on these lessons by practicing role-playing scenarios, journaling about our feelings through drawings, and connecting our social-emotional books to weekly character traits like kindness, patience, and responsibility. The next step in our current lesson is creating a \"Feelings Wall\" where students can identify and reflect on their emotions each day. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, our classroom is becoming a safe, nurturing space where young learners feel heard, supported, and empowered to grow both academically and emotionally.","fullyFundedDate":1756921585802,"projectUrl":"project/abc-dreams/9466702/","projectTitle":"ABC Dreams","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Powell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9207833_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755825298240","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9207833"},{"teacherId":9207833,"projectId":9396740,"letterContent":"Our \"Bright Beginnings\" project has truly made a difference in my kindergarten classroom. Thanks to the generous donations we received, my students now have the tools and resources they need to learn comfortably and stay focused throughout the day. The new headphones have been a huge success during our literacy and math technology centers. Having a mini fridge in the classroom has also been a wonderful addition, allowing me to keep snacks and juices fresh so students can refuel and stay energized for learning.
