One thing I love about STEM, is that it is cross curricular and encompasses all subject areas into one class. Students are able to make connections between math, science, art, and more within the class time that I have them. Adding appropriate and relevant stories and books to these classes have only made it even better!\r\n When students enter my room, most of the time I start with a read aloud. Students can sit with me on the carpet or I walk around the room showing them the pages, pictures, and illustrations. Either way, these stories lead us into our lesson for the day. We've read, \"Ada Twist, Scientist\" which led us into a lesson on volcano pumpkins or pumpkin slide. All students got to dress like Ada when we put our safety goggles on! We have read, \"What to do with a String\", and students were given strings and yarn to create their own ideas. It was so exciting to watch them tying knots, making bows, and using their imaginations to create a variety of things. Our favorite book, by far, has been \"Beautiful Oops\" where we learned that it is ok to make mistakes. After reading that story, each student made a mistake, traded with a friend, and the friend made the mistake into something beautiful.\r\n As you can see, these books are more than just words and illustrations on a page. They are opening up our minds, letting us embrace our creativity, and inspiring us to explore and not give up. The books you have donated have made such a wonderful impact on my students. I cannot thank you enough, and I look forward to continuing to read these to my classes for years to come.
