The collection was outdated and full of books that were not relevant or interesting to students. Also, it did not include books that represented all of our students and their specific cultures. \r\nI asked students from minority groups for suggestions of books that represented their cultures correctly. Student groups, such as the Black Student Union, the Asian-American student group, and the Indian American student group provided me a list of books that they felt would be culturally appropriate representations of their cultures. \r\nI began to purchase these books when I first got to the library 3 years ago. \r\nHowever, your donations allowed me to add some additional high-quality, award-winning books to our collection. I have put these books on display in our library so that students can see them when they enter. I can't tell you how their eyes light up when they see faces on the cover of the book that look like them. I actually had a black student look at the cover of one of the books and say, \"I'm going to check this one out because that guy looks like me.\" What an incredibly important moment. \r\n\r\nThank you for providing funds that allow for moments like this one.","fullyFundedDate":1742414627191,"projectUrl":"project/revive-our-librarys-collection/9156877/","projectTitle":"Revive Our Library's Collection","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Croasdale","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9218907"},{"teacherId":2418435,"projectId":9048861,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our adventures in aviation and physics! For example, in the photos you can see models of a stirling engine and a two-stroke combustion engine. By printing and assembling the parts for these, our class learned about the components of engines and how they interact to convert different types of energy into motion (kinetic energy). We have used the whiteboards for aural dictation, sight reading, drills and exercises, and even musical spelling bees!\r\n\r\nThis year, our district made an effort to reduce student fees. We are currently organizing several field trips for students to also learn about drone use in the real world, to explore career paths related to drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). \r\nThank you so much for making this experience a reality--our students are so, so excited to dive in and get started!","fullyFundedDate":1731552106034,"projectUrl":"project/flying-with-codrones/8936446/","projectTitle":"Flying With CoDrones","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dykstra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2418435_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1511245405873","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2418435"},{"teacherId":2418435,"projectId":8854162,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our STEM-my endeavors! Although we haven't yet started our adaptive technology project, my students were really excited to unbox our new tools and are anxious to put them to work! We'll be working on our adaptive technology next month. In the meantime, we have been using our new circle di-cutters that allow us to quickly and easily cut out \"perfect\" circles for making buttons. As part of our school's Kindness Week last semester, students in my classes made a design to promote kindness, then helped produce buttons that they could then hand out to in the hallways. In addition to that, as part of our review coming back after winter break, my chemistry students have been designing pun-ny buttons that highlight key ideas we need to remember and continue using this semester. This has been a really fun way for them to apply their chemistry mastery to make a product they're proud of and proud to share. I'm really excited to use this with my other classes, as the circle cutter allows students to demonstrate their content mastery and/or school pride in a novel way while making buttons and magnets.\r\nThank you for making this awesome experience a reality! It would have been really difficult to make large quantities of buttons without the di-cutters--perfect circles are challenging and arduous to cut! And, thank you for providing the tools that we will use in the future. I recently returned to the classroom in a new school (after a brief adventure in industry) and have been working to rebuild my equipment collection for our science labs. One of my students' favorite experiences is designing and building hydraulic machines while we're learning about fluids, forces, work, energy and power. As such, it was really important to me that I find a way to make this experience a possibility for my current students. With your support, I was able to purchase both a kit for building hydraulic machines and a set of kits for bridge building. We're currently in the middle of building our machines and, as always, my students have had a blast—they get to play and explore while also applying the physics concepts that we've been learning. Many of my students aspire to be engineers but this has been their first opportunity to actually work on designing/building anything mechanical, and to get a taste of the mechanical engineering field.
