We didn't finish the project completely until June. It turned out better than I had expected and I can't wait to share the final results with students in the coming school year. \r\n\r\nMy students have been eager to participate in the tiny art making and zine reproduction process and many have already started making work to share with others through this non-traditional format. I look forward to making this a focus for all art students next school year and hope to contribute some of my own work to share as well. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for supporting our art program and giving my students an opportunity to explore the impacts of collaboration and community building through art!","fullyFundedDate":1738171666866,"projectUrl":"project/a-little-free-art-gallery-art-for-every/9078061/","projectTitle":"A Little Free Art Gallery: Art for Everyone!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Murtagh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7636189"},{"teacherId":9754225,"projectId":8793849,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. As a first-year teacher, it has been one of my goals to bring literature into the classroom that I feel is important to my students' development. While that does include the cannon-- Shakespeare, for example, will always have a place in my teaching-- it also includes contemporary works that have had a great impact on our world like \"The Hunger Games.\"\r\n\r\nI first encountered \"The Hunger Games\" as a middle schooler, but I was not able to feel its full weight until I reread it as an adult. So many of its themes and teachings are timeless-- the ways in which government controls its people, how media can be turned into propaganda, and how anyone has the opportunity to change the world. Many of my students have read this book before, but now that they are in high school, it is an opportunity for them to reread with the critical eye we have been working to develop all year. \r\n\r\nMy students are invigorated by this novel. There are two parts to this unit so far. First, the creative side where they are writing journal entries based on prompts that ask them to put themselves into the story. This allows them to consider not only how the events of the novel contribute to the characters' developments, but also to explore how they would react to and think about the world of Panem. Second is the research side to this unit where they are writing a series of essays connecting the major topics seen in the book (government control, the power of the media, etc.) to the world around them. In combination, these two parts are teaching them to analyze the world they have found themselves in and encourage them to become active participants in it. \r\n\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your donation. Thank you again for bringing such joy to me and to my students. This is a gift I will never forget.","fullyFundedDate":1729945851561,"projectUrl":"project/developing-leadership-through-literacy/8793849/","projectTitle":"Developing Leadership Through Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Alexander","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9754225"},{"teacherId":6756877,"projectId":8650234,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to my elective: Literature, Society, and Science. Thanks to your support, I was able to buy nearly 100 new books for my students to read and study during this school year, and in the years to come. \r\n\r\nIn my classroom, students read constantly. We read everyday at the beginning of class for fifteen minutes— usually a novel of the students' choice, or our class novel— we read extension articles, and read each other's writing to grow as a community of readers and writers. \r\n\r\nSo far, my students have had the most enlightening study of Celeste Ng's novel, Everything I Never Told You, which was a novel we were able to study due to the generosity of our donors. We have cherished Ng's insightful and profound prose while grappling with the novel's themes of family, identity, social pressure, and societal norms. Countless students have already shared that reading this novel within our reading community has been a profound experience— not only to read this incredible novel, but to read it together. We look forward to studying the other novels from our book drive next semester.\r\n\r\nThis would not have been possible without you— thank you so, so much!","fullyFundedDate":1724858689926,"projectUrl":"project/literature-society-and-science-book-dr/8650234/","projectTitle":"Literature, Society, and Science Book Drive","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Parent","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6756877_orig.jpg?crop=2803,2803,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723591593966","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msparentsclassroom"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_46055","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1644,"numTeachers":85,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":22,"percentWhite":49,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.0,"schoolId":46055,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Monacan High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Monacan High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/chesterfield-county-public-schools/monacan-high-school/46055"}
