In just a matter of a few weeks, I have students playing against each other, teaching new students to the program the rules, beginning to understand opening principles, and expanding their learning horizons.\r\n\r\nAt first, the containers that the chess boards arrived in were tubes, and the pieces went flying all over the room when we tried to take them out of the box. This turned into a learning lesson where we had to carefully count how many pieces each board should have (32), which was a great introduction to the pieces and how they operate on the board. I'm hoping that my students continue to grow and practice the beautiful game, all thanks to your donation. Our extracurricular program is growing, and the students are recruiting their friends to play, I'm hoping that in about 12 months or so we'll be able to start competing in the city against other schools and organizations.","fullyFundedDate":1733279661182,"projectUrl":"project/chess-club/8946882/","projectTitle":"Chess Club!","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Ashcraft","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8834963"},{"teacherId":8978456,"projectId":8648241,"letterContent":"Technology is transforming pre-K learning by making education more engaging, personalized, and accessible. Interactive screens, adaptive learning apps, and gamified content help young learners develop cognitive, social-emotional, and motor skills in ways that feel natural and enjoyable. Tools like tablets, educational apps, interactive whiteboards and AI generated worksheets support early literacy, math, and problem-solving skills through play-based learning. The most exciting part of new technology for students is often the interactive and immersive experiences, such as augmented reality stories, hands-on coding games, or AI-powered personalized learning. These features make learning feel like an adventure. Certain students, especially those who thrive on visual and tactile engagement, often warm up to new technology quickly. For example, children who struggle with traditional learning methods may find digital tools more accessible and enjoyable, helping them gain confidence and participate more actively in lessons.","fullyFundedDate":1733279660990,"projectUrl":"project/pre-k-is-the-foundation-for-life-long-le/8648241/","projectTitle":"Pre-K Is the Foundation for Life-Long Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pierce-Collins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8978456_orig.jpg?crop=2048,2048,x0,y88&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737653409884","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8978456"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5597","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":233,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":95,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.3,"schoolId":5597,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mollison Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mollison Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/mollison-elementary-school/5597"}
