The headphones are hanging on the board for students to borrow and use when a task requires them. All items have made an impact on student learning and I appreciate your generosity so much. Your generosity has already made a profound difference in how we learn, and I wanted to share some specific ways this technology is impacting our students.\r\n\r\nMany of you utilize technology in your daily lives, and I can tell you that these calculators are becoming indispensable tools for our students, moving beyond basic arithmetic. They are helping them:\r\n\r\nVisualize and analyze complex data: Chemistry involves a lot of numbers! These calculators allow students to easily work with scientific notation, logarithms (crucial for pH calculations!), and perform statistical analysis on experimental results. This means they can focus on interpreting the data and understanding the chemical concepts, rather than getting bogged down in tedious calculations.\r\n\r\nExplore abstract concepts: Features like graphing capabilities allow students to visualize relationships between variables, like temperature and reaction rate. This makes abstract ideas more concrete and accessible, leading to deeper understanding.\r\n\r\nDevelop problem-solving skills: By quickly and accurately handling calculations, students can spend more time strategizing how to approach complex problems, analyzing different pathways to solutions, and checking their work. This fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities that extend beyond the chemistry classroom.\r\nSimulate real-world scenarios: We can now tackle more realistic problems and even explore simulations that require the computational power of these calculators, mirroring what scientists do in their research.\r\n\r\nWhat's been most exciting for my students? The overwhelming enthusiasm is around speed and independence. They are no longer waiting for a shared calculator, which disrupts the flow of their learning. The ability to have their own tool empowers them to work at their own pace, explore their own ideas, and feel more confident in tackling challenging problems. The relief on their faces during tests, knowing they have a reliable calculator, is palpable","fullyFundedDate":1743111105747,"projectUrl":"project/calculators-for-chemistry/9211134/","projectTitle":"Calculators for Chemistry","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Homes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9617832"},{"teacherId":9623602,"projectId":8789203,"letterContent":"I am so grateful that because of the availability of these supplies we were able to complete this project. I love learning and teaching all types of science, but I know that not every student feels as excited by daunting scientific problems and challenges. Of course, my hope is that students gain some enthusiasm for learning chemistry throughout the year, but they must first feel comfortable learning things that are challenging. It's difficult to be excited about learning chemistry if you are constantly struggling with hard problems.\r\n\r\nMy goal in this project was to get outside of the mental blockades that some students have in learning science. I wanted to give my students a hard problem that they did not have an obvious answer for, and then show them that the capacity to solve this problem has nothing to do with any natural talent or ability. Anyone can solve a Rubik's Cube, so long as you know the steps. I wanted to do something that was not chemistry to show that hard problems in and out of science can be solved by everyone.\r\n\r\nMy students really enjoyed taking a mental break from science to do something fun! So many students were able to solve the Cubes after just 1 block of playing with them and working through the steps. If you could have seen their surprised faces after making that last turn! Thank you once again!","fullyFundedDate":1735427450432,"projectUrl":"project/learning-stoichiometry-with-rubiks-cube/8789203/","projectTitle":"Learning Stoichiometry with Rubik's Cubes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Knoepfler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9623602"},{"teacherId":8670855,"projectId":9023962,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the containers and gloves. The containers are being used to store labs in a organized fashion. We do many labs and I have to set up 12 stations for each lab. The containers give me a place to store all the smaller equipment that is not normally housed at the lab stations. This allows me to set up and tear down labs much more efficiently which allows me more time to help my students with any questions they may have. \r\nThe grill gloves are being used to remove hot glassware from hotplates. They are easier to work with than beaker tongs and will help reduce burns and glass breakage.\r\n\r\nI appreciate your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1739565875855,"projectUrl":"project/lab-organization-and-safety/9023962/","projectTitle":"Lab Organization and Safety","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Wilson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8670855_orig.png?crop=304,304,x0,y19&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661981158829","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8670855"},{"teacherId":9623602,"projectId":8548800,"letterContent":"Words cannot express how grateful I am for the generosity of your donation. The materials you supplied to my classroom have already made a huge impact on our daily activities, but I expect these supplies will fuel chemistry learning for years to come. Small daily materials like colored pencils, and containers to put these materials in help make the classroom feel equipped to handle any and all learners in their various challenges. \r\n\r\nThe biggest contribution you have made was in the funding of a classroom set of calculators. As we have entered into our second semester of chemistry, the frequency of use for these calculators is immense. Some students can and do bring their own materials to class on a daily basis. But for many students, having their own calculator during class is impossible. It is hard for me to ask students to bring a calculator to class when they normally don't even bring a pencil. Having these calculators in class makes our daily learning accessible for many students who may normally feel like they could not participate. Even students who normally bring their own supplies are elated that there is no pressure on days when they slip up and forget something.","fullyFundedDate":1731534705975,"projectUrl":"project/future-scientists-calculate-the-formula/8548800/","projectTitle":"Future Scientists Calculate the Formula for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Knoepfler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9623602"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44872","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2572,"numTeachers":144,"percentFrplEligible":31,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":69,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.1,"schoolId":44872,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Millard North High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Millard North High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nebraska/millard-public-school-district/millard-north-high-school/44872"}
