With the resources I received, the students had a chance to make a more sophisticated build than what we have done in the past. We used to make balsa wood and tissue paper planes with rubber band motors, but often times factors such as the wind, the weather, and the construction prevented students from seeing success with their flight. Making motor-powered planes allowed them to apply more of the fundamentals of flight to their projects.\r\n\r\nStudents were excited to build the planes because they were using a lot of materials that they haven't used before, and they were excited to know they would have electric power rather than just wind. Planning and sketching the airplane builds went really well, and student teams were locked in on some great designs.\r\n\r\nNow that I have a new class of 6th graders for a new Semester, I am hoping to keep improving the project each time we do it. I already know that some of the previous students talked about it to friends because I have already received questions from excited students. It was so exciting to see the boxes of cards come in. Multiple people, including our principal were interested in Taco, Cat Goat, Cheese, Pizza game. One administrator even commented that they may buy a few sets for some ice breakers amongst staff!\r\n\r\nI distributed the cards to teachers in the morning along with an email, informing them of the generous gift you made so that we could have these cards as an alternative activity for students to do when done with work, in an effort to keep them off of the games on their laptop. Needless to say, it was a nice little 'good morning' to them. Everyone loved the idea, and was equally blown away by your generosity. \r\n\r\nThese cards have already gotten their money's worth in everyone's classes. Some teachers have shared that they plan to buy more with their budget. It is so wonderful hearing our students talking, laughing, and playing with each other, and not just isolated on a mind numbing game on their laptop. Our students, staff, and parents, thank you!!!
