We do this, but the meter sticks go much further in Physics. When you have an object like a marble that accelerates or decelerates as it rolls, measuring its speed and acceleration requires a specific distance measurement. Setting a stopwatch next to a meter stick and letting a marble roll by allows the students to create a slow-motion video on their phones and then make an accurate measurement of speed.\r\n\r\nWhen using toy cars that are designed to travel at one speed, the measurement is easier, but it still needs meter sticks.
