They have been on the shelf now for a little while, and I really wanted to share about the impact they are making on our students, specifically our special needs students. \r\nThe Dogman/Cat Kid books have been one of the favorites. In fact, one of our students has checked them out once a week since we received them. When she checks them out, she has been making little booklets and copying the words and pictures into her booklet. She says she is writing her own book, but here is what I see. I see a student who had trouble forming letters two months ago. She can now write the alphabet perfectly! Without even realizing it, she has been practicing those letters day in and day out for weeks, and having so much fun while she does it. It has also helped her with her fine motor skills as she draws. She loves Cat Kid and tells us all kinds of stories about her cat while she is drawing. Because of this, she is advancing her speaking skills. All this is happening with one student and one set of books that you helped put into her hands.\r\nI could go on and on about the benefits of these books for our students. Benefits we never even anticipated. Thank you again for making a difference in the lives of our students. They were actually coming to the library in partners so they could check out the book their friend was turning in. \r\nI wanted to share with you the story of one of our boys. This student is in a focused reading program because he is four levels below reading level and refuses to read or try to read. When we received the books you donated, I called him to the library and gave him first choice to check out one of the brand-new books. He was so excited and was back the next day for another book, having already finished the one he picked out. We saw huge gains in his reading levels by the end of the year, but even better than that, he was engaged and excited to read.
