My school is a mix of affluent and low-income students. Some have notebooks, while others struggle to afford basic supplies. Having notebooks for all, levels the playing field for those who do not have what they need and keeps them from feeling different from others. \r\n\r\nResearch shows students who handwrite their notes remember their lessons better. In middle school, many have not yet learned to take notes. Some struggle with executive function, especially with organization. I have some students who leave their journals here, in the room now, because they have lost the ones provided by their families or school support services. I work with students on how to take notes, what to write, how to organize their thoughts and words, how to keep track of work, and how to study from their notes. They keep a Table of Contents, pages used as a planner for homework assignments, pages for notes, and weekly reflection pages.\r\n\r\nThese notebooks give students the ability to learn, track, and study their lessons.\r\n\r\nThank you.","fullyFundedDate":1756387064921,"projectUrl":"project/journals-for-learning-to-take-math-notes/9478840/","projectTitle":"Journals for Learning to take Math Notes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Keller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kellerskidz"},{"teacherId":9735192,"projectId":8747507,"letterContent":"Wow! \"How cozy!\" That's what everyone says when they walk into my new and improved classroom. Thanks to your generous donation, I've been able to transform the space into a warm, inviting environment where my students feel comfortable, relaxed, and excited to learn. The cozy atmosphere is more than just a pleasant space—it's a place where my students can thrive, engage, and truly fall in love with learning.\r\n\r\nYour support has allowed me to create a classroom that not only looks inviting but also encourages a love for reading, which is my ultimate goal for my students. With the new reading nook and shelves filled with books at their fingertips, they now have a space where they can get lost in stories and ignite their imaginations. This would not have been possible without your kindness, and I'm so grateful for your contribution. I have one student in particular who now comes in and asks me, \"What is the fidget of the day today, and may I have it?\" He is so much happier and has a much better relationship with others in class because his mind is focused and engaged. These fidgets are proving to be durable, and I am confident they will help many student this year and in the years to come! Students have had a sneak peek of these books and will dive into them fully in January when we return from break. \r\n\r\nUp until now, students have read all together as a class some paragraphs or sentences, and we have read a few short stories aloud. They have also picked up children's books in Spanish to see how much they can understand and pick out new vocab words. \r\n\r\nNow, we'll all be able to have the same copy of the book in all our hands to enjoy a cute story with a twist that will help build my students' confidence in reading, their functional vocabulary, and continue contributing to our class' sense of shared stories and community. \r\n\r\nReading is the number one way for my students to develop their Spanish vocabulary, whether they are students with some experience in Spanish or those who are brand new to the language this year. I believe these books are timeless in their nature (pun intended there with nature, since they are set in the wilds of Colombia!) and will serve not only this year's students but hundreds of students in the years to come. I hope you see what an investment you've made into their academic skills and their development as humans who use their imaginations in reading!\r\n\r\nThank you again, so much, for surprising me with the amount and speed of your generosity! ¡Gracias por ser tan generosos!
