As a new teacher I had almost nothing to start my new role as a transitional kindergarten teacher. As an educator, I know that art provides a significant cognitive, social and emotional benefits, improves critical thinking, problem solving and creativity. My students loved to use these materials as they were learning to recognized letters, learn about each other's differences and qualities. We also learned about math and number sense. \r\nThe first project that I provided was a representation of themselves through a paper plate in which children were able to paint using skin color paint. It was very insightful to see children be so motivated to recognize who they were by using art materials such as wiggly eyes, yarn, pom poms to create their project.\r\nAnother experience that they loved was to use scented marker which they were able to use to perfect their fine motor skills. They also use the dot marker as they learn about letters.
