The students are able to enjoy activities that would otherwise be not possible. Each student used their creativity to make a respiratory system with the putty. They also got to make a digestive system with the tubing in the sensory kit to show the length of the small and large intestine. Hands on projects really make the information stick in their minds. We also made some system drawing and got to laminate them for the students to keep \r\n\r\nThe bean bags were a BIG hit with the students being able to play tag/hot potato during our soccer lesson. We used the bean bags as soccer equipment and then had to concentrate on foot control to move the bag.","fullyFundedDate":1758841496434,"projectUrl":"project/the-odds-and-ends-of-22-years-of-experie/9682390/","projectTitle":"The Odds and Ends of 22 Years of Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Thomas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3302637_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1450279734639","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/laura-thomas"},{"teacherId":3302637,"projectId":9274360,"letterContent":"The replenishment of equipment this start of the school year has been amazing. We started the year with fresh equipment and a new curriculum to bring new ideas to some old skills. The students have been engaged in physical activity and higher order of thinking to challenge each other in a productive way. \r\n\r\nWhen the students saw all 6 bags of new equipment they were elated to say the least. We have started with games using the foam soccer ball to play a game indoors like mat ball. We also used the foam frisbees with a cone and a hula hoop and jump rope to set up obstacle courses for the students to challenge each other. \r\n\r\nThe equipment has been a game changer to be able to utilize the new curriculum and games to make students want to be active and physically health for their whole life.","fullyFundedDate":1750875448533,"projectUrl":"project/replenish-the-equipment/9274360/","projectTitle":"Replenish the Equipment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Thomas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3302637_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1450279734639","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/laura-thomas"},{"teacherId":3302637,"projectId":9054480,"letterContent":"The seating has been a great addition to the classroom setting students strive to be to class on time and also are more engaged in the lessons when they have a seat option. The small treat to make their hunger decrease has been amazing as well. \r\n\r\nStudents who had me previous years and semesters have come back and asking to take my class again to have seating options. The students are able to use the alterative seating to get their mind focused on the work at hand. The students also enjoy having the putty to keep their hands moving during our class discussions called campfires. The final piece of my project that has been a huge hit to the whole school is the emotions banner. I hung it in the hallway and put information for suicide prevention underneath it to make people more aware help is available. \r\n\r\nThe students saw the bean bag chairs and immediately wanted to take turns using them during their assignment time. The students have also been using the putty to keep their hands active while listening. \r\n\r\nI will do doing another project soon to acquire more bean bag chairs. The students have been more engaged in class with these being an incentive for a turn. I also plan to combat hidden hunger for your students as well in my next project. It will increase engagement even further.","fullyFundedDate":1733161036187,"projectUrl":"project/helping-students-strengthen-mental-healt/8931858/","projectTitle":"Helping Students Strengthen Mental Health","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Thomas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3302637_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1450279734639","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/laura-thomas"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78037","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":400,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":37,"percentWhite":42,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"9.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.0,"schoolId":78037,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about McKinley Classical High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"McKinley Classical High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/st-louis-public-schools/mckinley-classical-ldrs-acad/78037"}
