Because of you, our classroom now has access to engaging, high-quality books that are already making a powerful impact on our students' learning and growth.\r\n\r\nMany of you are passionate readers yourselves—and we are, too! But teaching books is a different experience than simply enjoying them. With the help of these new texts, my students are learning not only to read, but to think while they read.\r\n\r\nSome of the key skills and lessons we're focusing on include:\r\n\r\nWith Pete the Cat, students are developing early reading confidence. The repetitive text and positive messages help emerging readers practice fluency while learning about perseverance, self-expression, and staying cool under pressure.\r\nOur nonfiction books are sparking curiosity and building background knowledge. Students are learning to identify text features (like headings, captions, and diagrams), ask questions, and gather facts—key skills for both reading and future research.\r\n\r\nThe Who Would Win? series is a classroom favorite! These high-interest books build critical thinking by encouraging students to compare and contrast animal traits, make predictions, and back up their opinions with evidence from the text.\r\n\r\nThe Pigeon stories bring humor and voice into our reading time. Students are learning about character development, persuasive writing, and emotional expression—all while laughing out loud.\r\n\r\nBeyond reading skills, these books are helping build a love of literature, a sense of community, and confidence in every student. They're talking about books, choosing to read during free time, and even acting out stories together.
