I've honestly never seen these kids get so into books before. Everyone was willing to read aloud (which they hate), and even when we read individually... they were so excited to read the book that they choose to read it even when they had free time. We were also able to have so many discussions about the books and the Holocaust because they were actually curious about it!\r\n\r\nWe were able to do projects about the novel as well, like our draw a scene assignments. They would have to draw a picture based off of what was happening in the chapter, and it was interesting to see what they thought was important and see their creativity. I felt a little uncomfortable taking pictures of the students, but they willingly offered their \"comfort animal\" to pose with the book, which I thought was adorable. Thank you again, my students definitely loved these books!","fullyFundedDate":1739734881111,"projectUrl":"project/children-of-the-holocaust-we-need-to-k/9062424/","projectTitle":"Children of the Holocaust - We Need to Know","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stout","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9895243"},{"teacherId":8369492,"projectId":9000354,"letterContent":"On behalf of my second-grade students and my school in rural Arizona, Thank you for your generosity and trust! We feel very blessed to have received your kindness and goodwill this holiday season. We love to have these brand-new headphones with microphones to practice and improve our reading fluency and comprehension.\r\n Now, when we practice our daily session with the program Amira, we can read to the computer and have personalized feedback and mini lessons to improve and learn from our mistakes. Thanks to you, our experience has been greatly enhanced. Now, we don't have to raise our voices to be heard because the microphones carry our voices straight into the computer providing the needed feedback. Thank you so much!\r\n We hope to continue working with our headphones to improve our reading skills. We promise to use them wisely and take care of them. You have allowed us to use new technology to benefit our lives. Before you became involved the students had no access to cooking at all. The Friday school teacher was able to use the cafeteria kitchen because there were no food services employees on campus, but students did not have access to even a microwave! We now have two microwaves and have added more measuring cups and spoons to our supplies so that each our young students is able to measure ingredients on their own. We received mugs from a private donor and grocery gift cards from a local chain.\r\n\r\nDuring the first semester we cooked using \"Make it in a Mug\" recipes. We rotated students after 1st quarter so that even more students would get a chance to experience making and eating creations from pantry staples. We made pancakes, eggs, pizza, and macaroni and cheese as well as desserts and snacks. We made apple crisp using whole apples with the skin on to improve the nutritional value of the food. We made chocolate chip cookie, strawberry cobbler, rice crispy treat, jelly donut in a mug, confetti cake, and a blueberry muffin in a mug.\r\n\r\nOur younger students, kindergarten through second grade, are very excited to have a turn in cooking class. I think the delicious aromas coming out of the room we use are creating more and more interest in cooking.","fullyFundedDate":1725318853693,"projectUrl":"project/21st-century-cooking-club/8529565/","projectTitle":"21st Century Cooking Club","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bridges","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8149229_orig.jpg?crop=1458,1458,x0,y252&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723344275701","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8149229"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_65097","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":349,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":66,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":61.5,"schoolId":65097,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mayer Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mayer Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/mayer-unified-school-district-43/mayer-elementary-school/65097"}
