Not to mention, the new ukuleles are absolutely beautiful in craftsmanship and in sound! Our 4th grade level is the largest group we have had in my time at MWES and I am so thankful that thanks to your donations, each student is able to have their own instrument in their hands. \r\nOne of my favorite parts about teaching ukulele is seeing how all different types of students flourish when they realize they are capable of making a beautiful sound on a \"real\" instrument. Having high quality instruments is an important part of this because the difference in sound between a plastic ukulele and a wooden ukulele is a big one!\r\nI will be so excited to share with my whole community in March when 4th grade performs their concert with the ukuleles. \r\nThank you so much again for your contribution to music education. Though it took a while to receive our items, we finally have them! The students at Mary Walter have had such a great time getting to use these new instruments.\r\nIn preschool, we've practiced playing low to high and high to low. In Kindergarten and 1st, we've practiced playing as an ensemble, playing ostinatos (repeating patterns), and playing multiple different parts at one time. In 5th grade, we used our ears to discover how to play the introduction of Beethoven's 5th Symphony and composed our own version, too!\r\n2nd grade and 4th grade primarily play the Orff instruments in the Fall semester, but they have noticed the new additions to our instrument area!\r\nDue to one instrument being unavailable, I did have to choose a different xylophone, but it worked out nicely because I found a slightly cheaper model, which allowed me to add on the purchase of some noise cancelling headphones. So now, some of the more sensitive-to-sound students can play without feeling overwhelmed by the sound!\r\nThank you again for supporting my classroom.
