The addition of floor chairs and new book sets has sparked excitement, joy and a renewed love of learning in my students. I am so grateful for your support, and I would love to share how these resources have impacted my students and how we are using them every day.\r\n\r\nWhen the new floor chairs and book sets arrived, my students reactions were unforgettable. Their eyes lit up with surprise and excitement as we unpacked each chair and opened the boxes of books. My students immediately rushed to claim a chair, testing it out by curling up with one of the new books. It was as though reading instantly became more inviting. One student even said, \"It feels like a reading party!\" Their genuine enthusiasm reminded me how even small changes in the classroom can make a huge difference in a child's learning experience. \r\n\r\nWe have already put these resources to daily use. During partner reading time, students eagerly grab a chair and a book, sit side by side, and take times reading aloud. This simple routine has become a highlight of their day, and I have seen both confidence and fluency improve because of it. During silent reading time, the floor chairs allow students to find a cozy space where they can focus, relax, and enjoy their books. For many, this has become their favorite part of the day. \r\n\r\nPerhaps the most meaning use has been during our Friday buddy reading time with younger students. Each week, my class partners up with a younger student to share stories. The older students carefully select books they are excited to read aloud, and the younger students listen with wide eyes and big smiles. They not only practice their skills but also learn the joy of sharing stories with others. The floor chair make this experience even more special, as the pairs can sit comfortably together while reading. \r\n\r\nBeyond the daily impact, these resources have shifted to the culture of our classroom. My students are always eager to read-whether it's during structured time, tutor time, or even when they have a few extra minutes. The chairs and the new book sets have turned reading from a routine into a privilege, something they look forward to rather than something they feel they have to do. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my next step is to expand this project by hosting family reading nights. The goal is to invite parents and family members into our classroom to share the joy of reading. With the new books and floor chairs, families will have the chance to read together in a warm and welcoming environment. I believe this is not only strengthening reading skills but also build a stronger bond between school and home.\r\n\r\nThank you again form making this possible. Your donation has given my students more than just supplies-it has given them comfort, excitement, and a love for reading that will last far beyond this school year.","fullyFundedDate":1747455816044,"projectUrl":"project/building-the-love-of-literacy/9311412/","projectTitle":"Building the Love of Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Elligsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8427131_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743227526833","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8427131"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_100222","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":39,"numTeachers":6,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":92,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"6.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":26.1,"schoolId":100222,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Martin L Olson School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Martin L Olson School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alaska/bering-strait-school-district/martin-l-olson-school/100222"}
