So far we used the construction paper for our Dr. Martin Luther King Projects and Biblioburro story map. \r\n\r\nStudents receive stickers daily to reinforce positive behavior. \r\n\r\nThe class had fun experimenting with the slime. Every week the students cannot wait to get their hands on them. I have done a few read alouds using some of the picture books, and they have quickly become favorites. Book talks are helpful for circulating the novels, although the lively covers and the relatable main characters are usually motivation enough. Some of my students' top picks are \"Hair Love\", \"Not Quite Snow White\", the Cameron Battle series, \"New Kid\", \"Kicks\", the April & Mae series, \"Stuntboy\", \"Curlfriends\", the Conjureverse series and \"The Me I Choose To Be.\"\r\n\r\nThe fact that you've added so many books with Black main characters to our school library, from picture books to graphic novels, is of course exciting to the students, but also meaningful to the staff, parents, and community. It shows you care about these children - their self-esteem, their love of reading, their worldview, and their futures.
