We recently used our bowling set for a group activity due to having extreme hot temperatures outside. When they first saw me bring out the bowling set, they all ran over and were so excited for a turn. I had a couple of students helping me unwrap the bowling set. The bowling set helped turn a fun gross motor game into multiple teaching opportunities. The students worked on waiting, taking turns, gross motor, socialization, and communication skills. \r\nThe next resource my students and I were given was an art easel. My students absolutely love art time, so being able to provide an easel that can be used inside and outdoors was a game-changer. Our students have deficits in fine motor, so this also help foster their fine motor skills. \r\nThe next steps for my classroom would be to include outdoor activities facilitated by myself and my staff members. They also used the funded boxes to collect and organize materials for building animal habitats, which encouraged creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. \r\nAlthough our time together was brief during summer school, I hope these hands-on experiences sparked a love of learning that students will carry into the new school year. Students each have their own to work with and they are eager to learn a new sport. Many students have played soccer and/ or football, but most have never played hockey. Watching them use force and yet miss the puck, teaches them that they must use finesse. They must focus on the puck and connect with the puck, while holding the hockey stick with both hands properly.
