The freedom to move while learning has been very helpful, especially during our 90-minute block classes. For neurodivergent students, the ability to wiggle and shift without leaving their seats allows them to release excess energy and maintain focus. \r\n\r\nDuring a recent partner activity, students worked together reading a passage in Spanish about someone's daily routine. This reading was more challenging because students had to decipher new unfamiliar language structures. I noticed a significant difference in engagement. Students who typically struggled to remain seated were able to stay engaged. When we all came back to go over the reading as a class, one of my students who often becomes disengaged, asked very insightful questions that led us as a class to notice the new grammatical structure without me having to explicitly point it out.\r\n\r\nThe students' initial reaction to the wobble stools was a mix of excitement and curiosity. Some students were more naturally drawn to them while others remained cautious, possibly wanting to avoid looking childish. For the majority of my classes, they have become a fixture that students can utilize to address a genuine need. The feeling in the classroom shifted from one of potential embarrassment to one of empowered learning. I have had multiple students tell me how much they enjoy having them in the classroom, and overall I believe my neurodivergent students feel seen and validated.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the stools will continue to be a different seating option for students to use as they see fit. It is my hope that the ability to experiment with what works best for them will have a positive affect on students advocating for their personal learning needs. The wobble stools are proving to be invaluable, providing the sensory stimulation and flexibility that my students need to thrive academically and emotionally in our Spanish class.","fullyFundedDate":1734963695733,"projectUrl":"project/get-your-wiggle-on-focus-with-wobble-st/8837677/","projectTitle":"Get Your Wiggle On!
