Students use them to work through problems, share strategies, make mistakes, and revise their thinking. Seeing their work displayed vertically makes mathematical thinking more visible and naturally encourages students to talk with one another about their ideas. Instead of worrying about getting everything perfect, students are learning that mistakes are part of the process.\r\n\r\nThe classroom economy has also added an exciting new layer to our learning community. Students earn classroom money for demonstrating positive habits such as perseverance, collaboration, and taking academic risks. They can use their classroom money to earn small incentives, including their favorite snacks and fun squishies. The rewards are exciting, but the bigger impact has been helping students recognize and celebrate the behaviors that help them grow as learners.\r\n\r\nThe new boho decorations have helped us create a space that feels welcoming and intentionally connected to our math identity. Our classroom messages remind students that they are capable mathematicians and encourage them to embrace grit, curiosity, productive struggle, and risk taking.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students become more comfortable putting their thinking on the board—even when they aren't completely sure they have the answer. They are beginning to understand that sharing an idea, asking a question, or making a mistake can help everyone learn.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using these resources as students tackle increasingly challenging mathematics. We will keep practicing how to explain our reasoning, learn from mistakes, collaborate with classmates, and persevere when a problem doesn't make sense right away.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped us create more than a classroom with new materials. Using the LEGO Education SPIKE Essential and SPIKE Prime kits, they immediately began exploring how coding connects to movement, sensors, and real-world problem-solving. One of our favorite classroom moments was watching students program their very first robot to move across the mat successfully. When it finally worked, the entire group erupted in cheers! That moment of teamwork and celebration showed just how powerful hands-on learning can be.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the reaction was pure joy. Many of our students had never seen robotics kits like these before. They carefully unpacked each piece, examined the motors and sensors, and couldn't wait to start building. For some, it was their very first experience with coding. Instead of feeling intimidated, they were curious and fearless. They asked questions, experimented, made mistakes, and tried again. Seeing their confidence grow with each attempt has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nWe recently attended our first regional robotics competition. While we didn't bring home a trophy this time, our students gained something even more valuable — experience, resilience, and belief in themselves. They learned how to collaborate under pressure, adjust their designs, and think critically when things didn't go as planned. Most importantly, they had fun and left inspired to improve and return stronger.\r\n\r\nThe LEGO table topper has transformed our classroom into a mini robotics lab, giving them a dedicated space to test, redesign, and innovate.\r\n\r\nThrough robotics, my students are beginning to see themselves as innovators, problem-solvers, and future engineers. They were so excited to explore. The students demonstrated improved emotional vocabulary, greater self-control, and increased engagement in our classroom.
