It is nice to see them using social skills that normally don't occur in middle school. I am used to students playing games against each other on their devices, but it isn't the same as a Jenga set that is stacked as high as possible and then falls over and they all laugh. Then in the same instance they start lining them up and knocking them down like dominos. We had an Uno competition to find a winner and that added a piece of friendly competition to it. Your donation has helped my students become more well rounded individuals and I appreciate your donation to our school and to the comradery you have created in my classroom. \r\n*I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to have games in not only my classroom, but in every classroom at our school. Games are a great way for students to work on their social skills as well as a great brain break. I have used games several years as a teaching tool in my classes, however being able to have even more options provided by you really has been a great addition. When students are done with their work, they do not just go straight to their computers to play games, instead they get a friend and find a game to play together. The classes are filled with laughter and friendly competition. It is exciting to see our students go back to working with one another, having fun, and enjoying being together here at school. We greatly appreciate your donation!\r\n*We truly appreciate the games that were donated to our classroom. It is incredible to see how a small action of having games available makes a huge impact on how our kids engage in class. Often kids are sucked into their devices and zoned out of the world. With these games, students are off of their devices and connecting with each other. Their interactions have been so positive and given us the opportunity to grow our social skills. We are able to have conversations about inclusivity, sportsmanship, and how to talk to one another. The kids have gone from arguing or being upset when they lose to congratulating each other and asking to play again. They are learning how to make sure everyone in the classroom is able to play a game of their choice and that we can interact and work with people who we are not friends with. These are crucial social skills that many middle schoolers did not learn during their early elementary years due to COVID. I am so glad we have the opportunity to go back and learn in a fun way and connect with one another.","fullyFundedDate":1757509806608,"projectUrl":"project/connect-without-screens-through-games/9625444/","projectTitle":"Connect (without Screens) Through Games and Cards","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Keegan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7782010_orig.jpg?crop=495,495,x23,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731941331351","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7782010"},{"teacherId":7597593,"projectId":9097975,"letterContent":"Thank you for contributing to our shed for our musical props. The students were very excited to be have this space. We were able to move our flats and other large stage pieces into it and keep them protected. Last year the students and parents made a rotating base with 3 double sided flats on them. We weren't sure if we would have to dismantle it or if we could keep it for future years. Thanks to your support, we were able to take off the flats and store it all so it's ready to use this year. \r\nThe students also were able to decide what pieces went into the new shed and help to organize the materials. It has allowed all of our classrooms to have whiteboard tables and whiteboard easels for students to encourage sharing work. Using a dry-erase marker is less permanent than a pencil, you can quickly erase with the wipe of a finger and start over, make a correction, or simply try again. This flexibility often is just the little extra that encourages or allows students to take a risk when they are unsure or don't know what the next step is to solve the problem. We have had one table and one or two easels per classroom, now everyone has access to them!\r\n\r\nMath is often a subject where students come in with preconceived notions. It is beneficial in building confidence to have everyone working together, talking out loud, and writing big enough for all to see and this can easily happen with these whiteboards. It also allows students to see that ALL make mistakes and it is easy to correct them and keep moving forward. What a powerful tool you have made accessible to our students. Please know you are making a difference in student after student, class after class, day after day.\r\n\r\nThank you doesn't seem like enough.","fullyFundedDate":1734731676609,"projectUrl":"project/building-thinking-math-classrooms-at-fms/8950122/","projectTitle":"Building Thinking Math Classrooms at FMS","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Keegan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7782010_orig.jpg?crop=495,495,x23,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731941331351","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7782010"},{"teacherId":8664203,"projectId":9027954,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for contributing to my Spring Break Survival Kits for kids! These items are what middle schoolers need and want, and I am grateful that you helped me with this project. \r\n\r\nStudents were selected based on recommendations from our mental health and administrative team. Once selected, students received a note to come see me and my co-counselor at parent teacher conferences, which was right before spring break, to receive their spring break bags. \r\n\r\nWith the help of my co-counselor we passed out the bags after school and during conferences to the students. We received many smiles and thanks. Many students told us that they needed socks, loved the snacks, and agreed they could use an extra deodorant along with lotion to keep here at school. Our students were excited to get an extra something special and I believe it made them feel cared for too.","fullyFundedDate":1740148135563,"projectUrl":"project/spring-break-survival-kit-for-middle-sch/9027954/","projectTitle":"Spring Break Survival Kit for Middle Schoolers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Barnett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8664203_orig.jpg?crop=201,201,x0,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735937614451","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8664203"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_57525","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":482,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":42,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":79.7,"schoolId":57525,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Marjorie French Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Marjorie French Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kansas/topeka-unified-school-district-501/marjorie-french-middle-school/57525"}
