On the surface, a viewer may see areas of a classroom that are decorative and visually appealing. However, a cozy chair, a rug, the warm light of a lamp, and fresh books truly made my students' face light up. Each day in our Reading intervention class I set aside about 20 minutes for students to read independently. This is a time that students have shown more interest in than of past years. They always race to be the one to sit in the bean bag or the chair. Even more, they are genuinely engaged in books that interest them. The transformation of my space has created an environment where students are actually looking forward to doing the thing that they've always thought they hated: reading! \r\n\r\nThese reluctant readers are choosing to spend independent reading time here and I've noticed deeper focus and fewer distractions. I am constantly growing my library with books like the ones that were donated. Providing choice in high-interest books is key - students are taking ownership and pride in their reading. As we continue to build confidence in our classroom, please know that your donations have given my students an opportunity to experience reading as something personal, inviting, and joyful! Thankyou for your investment in their growth.","fullyFundedDate":1749573695773,"projectUrl":"project/reading-refuge-for-reluctant-readers/9360198/","projectTitle":"Reading Refuge for Reluctant Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Akrong","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6258484_orig.jpg?crop=696,696,x0,y97&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747327117569","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6258484"},{"teacherId":9823378,"projectId":9160309,"letterContent":"As a second year ESOL teacher, I began the school year in August full of new ideas and excitement. Something I value is having a classroom where students are active and feel like they have ownership of the space and with your support, from day one, students have been able to create a space that feels like their own. \r\n\r\nWith the notecards and rings, students have taken ownership of their vocabulary knowledge and are encouraged by their vocabulary ring growing as the year goes on. Our sticky chart papers regularly serve as anchor charts and are a necessary point of reference for students as we progress through our units. Our mini white boards are always a treat for students and their faces light up when I introduce a game or activity where they can choose a color and hold up an answer to a question. Simple things go a long way in the classroom and they wouldn't be possible without your support. \r\n\r\nOur year has started off strong and I anticipate more growth, learning and community building.
