Students are loving the new supplies, from hula hoops to white boards and markers. Every grade level is benefiting from your donations.\r\n\r\nThe white boards and markers have been used in various ways. 5th graders have used them for their \"Dancing With the Elements\" unit where they used action words to create movement and practiced brainstorming individually and in small groups. 3rd graders use them to take notes during their ballet unit. From time to time students use them to draw when they need to refocus or when they get out during a whole class game of \"Night at the Museum.\" They are used daily!\r\n\r\nThings like the hula hoops, bean bags, and parachute have added so much excitement to our lower grade dance classes. The hula hoops provide boundaries for learning personal space and help create fun obstacle courses. The bean bags are used for learning balance, creativity, and coordination. The parachute is used in all grades for learning team work and group coordination, as well as counting, rhythm, and keeping a beat. \r\n\r\nA few other items that are worth mentioning! The magnetic timer helps us track time as a whole class, comes in handy during games, and especially helps students who need to track the minutes to stay focused and engaged. Our mini bookshelf holds all of our lower grade books and looks great with our new classroom setup.\r\n\r\nYour donations have greatly impacted our 500 + students who walked into dance this year excited to see all of the new, colorful items. When they learned that \"strangers\" donated them they felt loved and grateful. They rushed at the chance to write thank you cards. Honestly, they can't keep their hands off the supplies. \r\n\r\nWe will continue to build on our dance units and how we incorporate these tools! It has helped our students be hands on and comprehend specific concepts and body awareness.\r\n\r\nThank you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1755533116764,"projectUrl":"project/making-magic-with-dance-studio-supplies/9609564/","projectTitle":"Making Magic With Dance Studio Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Erika","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9722680_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725198117370","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9722680"},{"teacherId":5136168,"projectId":8834642,"letterContent":"This project had a great impact on our students. We were able to explore how to read nonfiction texts and then answer questions about what was read. This real life example of how reading and then going back into a text to make sure you understand what was read, was invaluable. \r\n\r\nThis project allowed us to \"practice\" for the MCA in an authentic way. Many students felt more prepared for this assessment by completing the weekly Scholastic Readers for 3rd grade. \r\n\r\nThis project was so positive that we have continued using the Scholastic Readers this school year. Every student now has their own working pair, which means no more waiting to share or struggling without sound. Students can fully participate in online reading, math, and language activities, and the classroom feels calmer and more focused. Instead of troubleshooting broken headphones or trying to work without them, students can dive straight into their lessons.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have also given students more independence. They can adjust the volume to their needs, focus on their work without distraction, and complete assignments at their own pace. For students who benefit from learning supports such as read-aloud programs or instructional videos, having consistent access to headphones has leveled the playing field. Everyone now has the same tools, and that equity shows in the confidence and engagement I see each day.\r\n\r\nMost of all, these headphones have given our class a sense of pride and preparedness. When students sit down to learn, they know they have what they need to succeed. It may seem like a small thing, but for my students, it has made a huge impact. Thank you for making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1757944253682,"projectUrl":"project/every-student-deserves-working-headphone/9701786/","projectTitle":"Every Student Deserves Working Headphones","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Adams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9218152_orig.png?crop=1024,1024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757706558592","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9218152"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75454","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":415,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":35,"percentWhite":26,"percentIndigenous":5,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.6,"schoolId":75454,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Marcy Open School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Marcy Open School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/minneapolis-public-schools/marcy-open-school/75454"}
