But, my students were even more excited. Painting supplies are at an all time low. So the paint sticks are giving my students more opportunities to be creative with different medium. For our first project my students got to use the construction paper and the paint sticks to make flower vase collages after studying Claude Monet. You would have thought they were in a candy store. They were so excited about picking out their colors. The paint sticks are so easy to use even our most anxious students loved using them. They are also great for children who do not like to get paint on them. \r\n These supplies are making it possible for us to finish out the year strong studying the great artist and creating work inspired by those artist. The calm-down tools and visual supports are part of our daily routine. One powerful moment happened during morning meeting when a student began to feel frustrated. Instead of shutting down or yelling, he independently walked to our calm-down area, chose a fidget, and used a feelings visual to tell me he was \"angry.\" That moment showed incredible growth. He was able to identify his feeling and use a strategy — something we've been explicitly practicing together.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were so excited. They were especially drawn to the sensory tools and feelings visuals. We took time to model how to use each item respectfully and appropriately. The students immediately began practicing deep breathing, positive self-talk, and using the calm-down corner as a tool — not a punishment. It quickly became a safe, empowering space.\r\n\r\nOur next steps focus on building independence and peer empathy. We are working on using kind words, solving small problems with sentence stems (\"I feel ___ when ___.\"), and recognizing emotions in others. We are also incorporating role-play during morning meeting so students can practice real-life scenarios in a structured way.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a classroom where students feel seen, heard, and supported. One special moment that stands out was during our informational writing unit. Students used their new supplies to plan their writing using drawing-based organizers before turning their ideas into sentences. For many of my students, this was the first time they independently wrote multiple sentences about one topic. Seeing their faces light up when they realized, \"I wrote this all by myself!\" was priceless.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. The students could not wait to try everything. The writing boards especially made them feel like \"real authors.\" Even my more hesitant writers were eager to participate because the materials made writing feel accessible and fun rather than overwhelming.\r\n\r\nRight now, we are continuing to build stamina and independence. Our next step is strengthening sentence structure and adding details to our writing. Students are working on stretching out words, using phonics skills to write independently, and rereading their work to check for clarity. We are also beginning opinion writing, where students will state their opinion and give a reason — something that feels very big and exciting in kindergarten!\r\n\r\nYour support has not just provided supplies — it has built confidence, independence, and pride in young learners.
