The fraction circles and play money you donated through DonorsChoose have quickly become some of their favorite tools in the classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen we first opened the boxes, students couldn't wait to try them. One student picked up a fraction circle and said, \"Oh! Now I get how 1/2 and 2/4 are the same—it's like puzzle pieces.\" Another added, \"Fractions make sense when I can see them!\" The ability to move the pieces, compare sizes, and build wholes has turned a once-frustrating concept into something concrete and fun.\r\n\r\nThe play money has also been a huge hit. We've used it to set up \"classroom stores,\" where students practice making change, adding decimals, and solving real-world word problems. They love saying, \"I'll buy this for $2.75—who has quarters?\" Even students who normally shy away from math were excited to jump in, role-play, and help one another with calculations. One student told me, \"I feel like I'm doing real grown-up math!\"\r\n\r\nWhat I've noticed most is the confidence your gift has built. Before, many students would hesitate to share answers out loud. Now, they're explaining their thinking to each other with pride, using the circles and money as proof. Math has shifted from \"something hard\" to \"something I can do.\"\r\n\r\nYour support didn't just give us supplies—it gave our students experiences that make them excited to learn. One student summed it up perfectly: \"Math is actually fun now!\"\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our kids and giving them the chance to learn with tools that bring math to life. Their voices and smiles say it best: your generosity truly matters.","fullyFundedDate":1747338322153,"projectUrl":"project/fraction-circles-visualizing-parts-mak/9108949/","projectTitle":"Fraction Circles: Visualizing Parts, Making Math Click!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Davids","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5196104_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1540427289349","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5196104"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_88003","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":257,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":66,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":71.2,"schoolId":88003,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Maple Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Maple Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oregon/springfield-school-district-19/maple-elementary-school/88003"}
