They were so excited to have a sketchbook that belonged to them. Many of them immediately started flipping through the pages and talking about what they wanted to draw. It was such a sweet reminder of how powerful simple supplies can be when they are placed in the hands of creative children.\r\n\r\nWe are using the sketchbooks during Art Club to brainstorm ideas, practice techniques, and develop original artwork. The pencils and erasers have helped students feel more confident because they can sketch, revise, and try again without worrying about making mistakes. That is such an important part of the creative process.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using the sketchbooks as a place for students to build their ideas before creating finished artwork. They are learning that artists do not always create a final piece on the first try. Artists plan, practice, make changes, and grow. In second grade, moving from abstract concepts to concrete objects is the magic key for learning. Because of your generosity, my students won't just be looking at pictures of coins in a workbook; they will be participating in lots of hands on learning. \r\nThe wobble stools have also been an immediate game-changer for our learning environment. As any teacher will tell you, second graders are built to move! These stools provide a productive outlet for that natural energy, allowing my busy learners to wiggle while they work, which significantly improves their focus. I've already seen a boost in stamina during independent reading time from the students using them.
