It is due to your assistance that my students didn't have to feel as though they were going with out. Everyone had the materials that they needed to start the school year. More importantly, many of my students feel empowered to take on roles in class.\r\nI have seen my students work collaboratively and step up into leadership positions. They're engaging with the material. In creating a welcoming and fun experience while learning.\r\nWell, I know that at school is not for every person. A co-facilitator and I are about 5 weeks in to the book study and after the first \"rocky\" group, as groups usually start, it has been a cup-filler for my co-facilitator and me and I believe the students as well!\r\n\r\nWe started with about 8 students, lost a few, but then gained a few more. We have a steady 6 students who are participating and the conversations have been rich. Through the \"lens\" of the author's narrative, we have been able to address social ills, challenges due to poverty and family struggles, what kids need to grow into healthy adults, and what roles schools could/should play in all of this. \r\n\r\nYoung voices are being elevated and knowledge and power is being shared. My co-facilitator is a Social Work intern, so he too is learning an incredible amount about engaging youth and facilitating groups through this opportunity. Additionally, I've been providing home-cooked food to share during our book study time, so there's even more of an element of community and togetherness. \r\n\r\nThere is now some talk of growing this project to other high school campuses in our district to reach more lives. Thank you again for your donation. It has really turned an idea in to a beneficial reality! \r\nI do not have pictures to share because I don't have media releases on these students. But I can assure you there are many smiles.","fullyFundedDate":1735247996574,"projectUrl":"project/leadership-through-literacy/9014746/","projectTitle":"Leadership Through Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jesse","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9785967_orig.jpg?crop=2556,2556,x0,y562&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734707980588","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9785967"},{"teacherId":9497455,"projectId":8553594,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well.
