It is my sincerest hope that I NEVER have to use any of the items in these kits. School shootings are happening everywhere, and there isn't a teacher anywhere who doesn't worry about it. \r\n\r\nWe are taught to avoid, deny, defend, and then to help mop up the carnage. Most students who die in a school shooting die because they bleed out. With these supplies, I now have the materials needed if the unspeakable happens.\r\n\r\nI never, ever want to use the materials in these kits, but I feel safer knowing that if it happens, I have the materials needed to help save students and provide first.","fullyFundedDate":1758991226863,"projectUrl":"project/the-one-thing-i-never-want-to-use/9761167/","projectTitle":"The One Thing I Never Want to Use","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Joy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp970596_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1512787733018","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msjoy"},{"teacherId":970596,"projectId":9737050,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your donation for the cushions for my classroom. Sitting for 88 minutes is painful. Having to sit at a student desk is beyond painful. My students literally develop cases of the wiggles no matter how many breaks I give them.\r\n\r\nWith the cushions however, everything changes. They are willing to sit at their desks to take notes, and then when it is time to work independently, or in small groups, they race for the cushions and look for a comfy place to work. Some kids prefer working in one area where there is less sun, while others take their cushions and work and curl up in the sun to work like contented little cats!\r\n\r\nThe productivity in the room shoots up when they can work like this, and it is thanks to your generous donations that they can. My class was structured with soothing music, inspirational readings and responses, and exposure to such important topics as finding your joy, cultivating mindfulness, relaxing into your breath, quieting your mind during meditation, and moving with fluidity and purpose in yoga asanas, or poses. \r\n\r\nI expected the class to reach some of the students in the room, but was not prepared for the overwhelming notes of positivity I received on our last student reflection. Students appreciated that the class afforded them a time to 'just be,' that they felt they could finally unpack some of their emotions, and that they learned to use important mantras like, \"I am here. I am present. I am love.\" in times of stress. \r\n\r\nThose statements of appreciation extend whole heartedly to you, as your donation helped to make my classroom space more inviting, and peaceful to all who entered. My students deserve a calm space to be and feel themselves, and you brought them closer to an equilibrium we all could benefit from. \r\n\r\nSo, thank you, be well, and I invite you to seek calm and quiet in your lives, too.","fullyFundedDate":1723468166777,"projectUrl":"project/writing-for-peace-an-english-elective-f/8611987/","projectTitle":"Writing for Peace, An English Elective for Diverse HS Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Priddy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3306016_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723423809448","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3306016"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_80235","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":759,"numTeachers":73,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":45,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":55.9,"schoolId":80235,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Manchester High School - West on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Manchester High School - West","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-hampshire/school-administrative-unit-37/manchester-high-school-west/80235"}
