They were super excited to read the Dog Man books, the Cat Kid books, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. The other favorites were the Goosebumps books, the Babysitters Club books, and the Percy Jackson books. They loved being able to choose a book that interests them to read. We were also able to include some graphic novels. These are perfect for those reluctant readers as they don't get so overwhelmed by the text. They are great to help students build their reading stamina! \r\nIt has been a blessing to give students the opportunity to read just for fun and not for academic purposes. They have been reading steadily since these books arrived, and their reading growth has been amazing! We have you all to thank for this opportunity! Having these letter tiles has been a tremendous help for my second graders. Our county has adopted the UFLI program for Phonics. This program is based on word patterns, such as vowel teams, diphthongs, and blends. We focus on the different spelling patterns by reading, writing, and building the words. Thanks to you, each one of my students has their own set of magnetic letter tiles that they can use during our word work. When we get to the section on building words, they use these tiles to compose and decompose words. They are able to see how words work by building them. \r\nThis project has been one of the most beneficial projects that I have had funded for my classroom. It is something that has had a huge impact on my classroom. I have seen such growth in the area of sight word recognition, decoding, encoding, and spelling thanks to the practice that they get building words with the letter tiles!
