The first group of items were some sensory items (fidgets/pop it's etc). I have found when students can have their hands busy fidgeting with something, they are more open with talking. They have a way to channel energy into an object or something to focus on. Additionally, students will take sensory breaks in my office and have several items to choose from which has been helpful to meet the emotional regulation of all the different students who need a break. \r\nWhen students see new fidgets show up, they absolutely notice and say \"you got new stuff?\" I think it helps keep things fresh and provides different sensory input which continues to aid in regulation. Even high school kids aren't too old for the fidgets/sensory things.\r\nSecondary this project provided social skill materials through social conversation dice, conversation cards & 2 board games. These items have proven to be great facilitators for my high school social groups I run weekly. It has encouraged conversation in fun and new exciting ways. Even simply playing a board games invites conversation, laughs and ways to create connections with students and peers in the group. The students loved the fidgets, especially the koosh balls! When I meet with students in groups, having the conversation cards and the get to know you dice is very helpful, especially as the groups are being established. The get to know you dice is a tool that I carry with me often to help engage students and get them talking about their feelings and emotions. There are always lots of laughs too, which helps with students comfortability. The relationship bingo game has been a big hit as well! As you can imagine, there are many students who struggle with basic relationship skills. The game has helped start conversation and grow my students skills in promoting healthy relationships. All of the supplies you provided have helped the school year start off in a positive way. We look forward to continuing to use the tools you have provided to help continue on with a positive and healthy school year.
