The students have jumped at the opportunity to bring their planning to life. We have chosen to use the 3-D printer in two significant ways. First to design and second to reward.\r\n\r\nStudents decided to compete by trying to replicate famous sites from around the world. Students chose bridges, researched their significance then, designed their version using Tinkercad. The kids were unbelievably excited to get the fine details right. \r\n\r\nThe second major use has been to use pre-designed fidgets to provide students with calming tools during class. Math is stressful and often requires students to focus for long periods of time. The various stimuli have been an excellent source of bringing in that calm focus. Students have the ability to win permanent ownership as they reach their achievement goals. The Lakeshore kits have been highlighted by the kids because they allow the kids to choose the tool they want versus me dictating what they use.\r\n\r\nThe expansion of our tools has allowed me to pull small groups back to focus on gap instruction. The growth has been both tremendous and rewarding. Students are seeing math from a different perspective. Each time I am able to bring students closer to on-grade instruction, they feel more confident and are willing to try more and learn from their mistakes.
