They love using the Power Pens and learning cards for instant feedback, and turning lessons into games with the bingo and flash cards has made practice exciting. The money chart and workbook help students track their progress, celebrate small wins, and gain confidence in their abilities. Watching them proudly say, \"I can do this!\" has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThe students' enthusiasm has been inspiring; they eagerly dive into counting coins, adding bills, and solving money problems, showing determination and pride with every success. One of the most exciting moments was when students used the germ tracker kit to experiment with hygiene and see real-world results. Watching their curiosity and excitement light up the room was unforgettable.\r\n\r\nThe students' reactions to these new resources have been incredible. Many of them eagerly dove into the materials as soon as they arrived, exploring experiments, asking thoughtful questions, and sharing discoveries with peers. These tools have allowed me to offer more interactive lessons, foster independence, and help each student build confidence in their ability to think critically and solve problems.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my classroom is now a place where science comes alive every day. Seeing their confidence and excitement as they engage with these activities has been truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were thrilled, rolling out the mats, trying new stretches, and exploring the adapted games right away. Having equipment designed for their needs has made a big difference in their independence and sense of accomplishment. Our next steps include expanding daily movement sessions and allowing students to lead activities, while the new storage carts help them take ownership by setting up and putting away materials on their own. The Text-to-Speech audio and built-in vocabulary support allow us to practice fluency, comprehension strategies, and discussion skills, while still maintaining each student's dignity and confidence. I have noticed particular growth in a few students who previously avoided reading altogether; they now volunteer to read aloud, reference the articles during class conversation, and eagerly ask when the next issue will arrive. Despite this, they have made a major impact during our first week of school! \r\n\r\nFrom the moment my students opened their lockers, they were eager to place their school items inside and start using them as part of their daily routine. What may seem like a simple space has already become a tool for building organization and responsibility in meaningful ways. One of my favorite moments this week was seeing a student who often has difficulty keeping track of materials confidently put everything in their locker and then proudly return to it later when they needed something. Instead of misplaced supplies or cluttered desks, students are already getting into the habit of checking their lockers and keeping their belongings in order. These lockers are helping us create smoother routines while giving students a sense of ownership over their space.\r\n\r\nAs the year continues, I know these lockers will play an important role in teaching responsibility, independence, and pride in our classroom community. Although not all of the items from our original request were available, we were fortunate to receive two key resources: a weighted blanket and a set of sensory tiles. From the moment my students saw the sensory mats, they were curious and engaged. These mats have become a meaningful part of our daily routine—students often choose them during independent work time, breaks, or when they need help calming down. The tactile input provides soothing stimulation that supports self-regulation and focus, especially for students who benefit from sensory-based strategies.\r\n\r\nThe weighted blanket has also become a powerful tool for emotional regulation. Several of my students request it when they're feeling overwhelmed or need a moment to reset. It offers a sense of calm and comfort that helps them return to learning with more focus and confidence. These resources are not just additions to our classroom—they're daily supports that have a real impact on student well-being and engagement. It seemed that the first kidney table chosen for the project was sold out, and each one after that would either exceed the original budget or come back as unavailable from every vendor we tried. However, Pooka Charities donation was put to good use and we were able to order individual student desks, four desks in total. The benefits of these desks have been more than I could have ever expected! \r\nAlthough we were not able to receive the kidney table, that didn't stop the excitement in our classroom. When our new desks arrived, the student were absolutely thrilled! And as my class is full of independent, motivated learners who are working on essential life skills, they immediately offered to help put the desks together. It became a hands-on learning moment, with a little supervision, as the students partnered for each desk, working in teams and strengthening their communication, collaboration, and fine motor skills in the process. It was inspiring to see how proud they were to contribute to setting up their learning environment. \r\nThese desks have already made a huge impact in our classrooms. The cubbies in each desk have been a favorite feature, allowing students to organize their school supplies, textbooks, and take ownership over their space. Even better, since the desk are not attached, we can easily transition between small group instruction, partner work, and whole group discussions, supporting the flexible and inclusive learning environment our school strives for. Whether students are practicing academic task, working on social skills, or teaming up for job readiness activities, the new desks have helped create a more dynamic and engaging classroom space. \r\nAs well continue working on post-secondary goals, these desks have helped lay the foundation for skills like responsibility, task focus, and self-management. We are currently working on a collaborative project that mimics real-world tasks, where students rotate through roles in a simulated workplace. Being able to adjust their leaning space to match their team setup has been a game-changer.
