My students would rather play games on laptops or their phones rather than read. However, I happen to love to read and recognize the value of reading.\r\n\r\nWith the donations received, I was able to order numerous, interesting, quality novels for my Third Grade class. The students were so excited to open the boxes and pull the novels and picture books out. This provided opportunities for rich and engaging discussions. I chose novels with great pictures, stories, and various reading levels.\r\n\r\nGenerally, I read out loud to the students, which ensures that all students are getting the same information, which compensates for the different reading levels. However, I do provide individual choice and quiet reading time, as well. I also created a really cozy, warm and inviting classroom \"library\" complete with pillows and stuffies.","fullyFundedDate":1747074567610,"projectUrl":"project/3rd-grade-facing-challenges-and-finding/9227319/","projectTitle":"3rd Grade- Facing Challenges and Finding Courage","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Barnes-Weatherill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3738384_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1535075958984","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3738384"},{"teacherId":3738384,"projectId":8268253,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for such a thoughtful gift to my classrooms. It changed the perception of music class for some of them by giving them a novel and exciting outlet. We used the melodicas to learn keyboard skills and apply that to some new songs. Then we combined that with the drum skills we had been building over the year to make some awesome performances. \r\n\r\nMaybe the best part of this was the mobility. Since the melodicas travel so easily we walked down to the local Lions Club to share our music. It was fun and nerve-wracking for the class to be in front of all those people but they did a great job and the folks we played for loved it. \r\n\r\nI really think getting the chance to play these melodicas changed how some of these students looked at learning music.","fullyFundedDate":1743088995185,"projectUrl":"project/melody-making-on-the-go/9084754/","projectTitle":"Melody Making on the Go!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Monahan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9237900"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_36123","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":105,"numTeachers":8,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":74,"percentIndigenous":5,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":34.3,"schoolId":36123,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lyle Secondary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lyle Secondary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/lyle-school-district-406/lyle-secondary-school/36123"}
