Many of my multilingual learners at Lowell Elementary are still developing their English skills, and this new technology has opened a world of learning for them. They are now able to listen to stories, practice vocabulary with visuals, and use interactive programs that provide instant feedback—something that helps them feel confident and successful.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is how hands-on and engaging the lessons have become. They love using the devices to play educational games, record themselves reading, and explore topics in both English and their home languages. This has encouraged even my shyest students to participate more and take pride in their progress.\r\n\r\nOne student, who used to hesitate to speak in class, now eagerly records her voice to practice pronunciation and listens to herself improve each day. Another student enjoys using translation and drawing tools to better express his ideas. At Lowell Elementary, many of our students come from low-income families where consistent access to nutritious food can be a challenge. These snacks were more than just treats—they were tools that fueled learning, built community, and helped every student feel valued and included.\r\n\r\nEvery day, my students come to school eager to learn, but hunger can sometimes be a quiet barrier. For multilingual learners who are working hard to master English while learning grade-level content, staying focused and energized is essential. Having healthy snacks available in our classroom provided a sense of comfort and stability. Students no longer had to worry about empty stomachs during lessons, and I could see an immediate difference in their energy, focus, and participation. Instead of being distracted or tired, they were alert and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe snacks also became an important way to build community. During small group time or after completing a challenging activity, students would share snack breaks together. This simple act created natural opportunities for conversation and social interaction in English. For many of my multilingual learners, these informal moments are just as valuable as structured language lessons. They practiced everyday vocabulary—asking for snacks politely, talking about their favorites, and describing tastes and textures—all in a relaxed and friendly environment. These conversations built confidence and gave them real-life practice using English in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nWhen we received the donations, we decided to plan a small classroom celebration to say \"thank you.\" The students were so excited to take part in preparing for it. They created handmade thank-you cards, practiced writing short notes in both English and their home languages, and helped decorate our classroom. During the celebration, students shared what their favorite snacks were and how the donations had helped them. One student proudly said, \"When I eat a snack, my brain wakes up!\" Another student smiled and said, \"It feels nice that people care about us.\"\r\n\r\nThe celebration was a joyful reminder of how even the smallest acts of kindness can create a big ripple of positivity. The snacks brought comfort, joy, and a sense of belonging to students who sometimes face challenges beyond the classroom. It was also a wonderful opportunity to teach gratitude. My students learned that when people give, it comes from the heart—and that expressing appreciation is just as important as receiving.\r\n\r\nAs their teacher, I am deeply grateful for the donors who made this possible. The snacks not only nourished my students' bodies but also supported their academic growth, emotional well-being, and language development. Every bag of chips, granola bar, or fruit snack represented more than just food—it represented care, encouragement, and hope.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping our multilingual learners thrive, one snack at a time. Your generosity truly made our classroom a brighter, happier, and more inclusive space for learning and growth.","fullyFundedDate":1749215588664,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-to-ensure-no-child-learns-on-an-e/9257677/","projectTitle":"Snacks to Ensure No Child Learns on an Empty Stomach","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Diaz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8887831"},{"teacherId":7063297,"projectId":9321660,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your generous donations!
