Our Healthy Artists Live Here project includes art books, supplies, and wonderful colors, to name a few. Students have enjoyed coloring, discussing, and learning about the benefits of art. They have coloring pages and drawing pages, a deck of cards, and posters.\r\n We started reading the 52 Essential Gratitude Attitude cards the second week of our Spring Semester. The cards included a power prompt with affirmations and quotes to teach life lessons. They are designed to make students think about their mood and mindset. For example, a student drew a card that said, \"Your time is limited, don't waste it living someone else's life\" by Steve Jobs. We started every day with a motivational video and question of the day. Next, each student chose a card that included a quote, affirmation, and prompt. The students enjoyed how each card had some type of meaning to their life and daily experiences. A few students said the card knew me or what I was going through. Other students choose their favorite quotes and wrote them in their art journals. \r\n A majority of the students love to color and draw. We appreciate you providing us with the coloring books and learning to draw books. The color books include Color Me Calm, Think Positive, Be Positive, and It's Ok not to be Ok. When I asked students what they liked about coloring and drawing, they said it took their mind off of things and helped them relax. They also liked being able to create their own drawing after coloring. One student mentioned that he was drawing tattoos and crosses. They could draw anything they wanted. \r\n Last, a few of the students have enjoyed drawing and writing in their art journals. The art journals have provided a safe place to write and be themselves. I did not read anything specific, I just glanced at a few pages. All of the students were writing at least a half to a full page of what they thought about art, what they were feeling that day, and/or anything else they thought about the benefits of art. Some were highly motivated at first and some were sort of excited. After a few weeks, they all dive into the journals without being asked. My first hope was that they would write every day and then incorporate some drawings with it. What I saw was a lot of small designs, pictures, and doodling. In the book, \"Your brain on art\" it explains how doodling helps students focus and relax because the increased blood flow triggers feelings of pleasure and reward. \r\n\r\n In conclusion, our Healthy Artists Live Here project has been a huge success so far. Students not only want art, but in my opinion, need art. I think it helps them explore, imagine, and create. Art opens the mind, brings a positive mood and vibe, and allows students to express experiences that they don't share openly. I have seen firsthand that stress and anxiety can be reduced. Feelings of mindfulness and joy can replace sadness. I know as we continue our art journey, students will be free to explore and experience the awesome benefits of art. Thank you so much, we cannot put into words what your supplies have done. We are at Alternative School giving the best alternative-Art to students that need so much more than just a textbook or online class.","fullyFundedDate":1733191824542,"projectUrl":"project/healthy-artists-live-here/8903070/","projectTitle":"Healthy Artists Live Here","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Hicks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9815870"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_10385","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":934,"numTeachers":56,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":71,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":55.6,"schoolId":10385,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Long Beach High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Long Beach High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/mississippi/long-beach-school-district/long-beach-high-school/10385"}
