Due to your agency's generosity, my students and I have been gifted a standing whiteboard and markers to use in my \"Building Thinking Classroom\" activities. \r\n\r\nI was introduced to the \"Building Thinking Classroom\" strategy by my colleagues over the summer, and despite the fact that I've been teaching English for 20 years at my high school, I was excited to try something new that would engage my students in their work further. This strategy requires plenty of surface area for students to stand at their work stations and brainstorm on \"non-permanent\" surfaces. The importance of the \"non-permanent work surface\" cannot be understated, as students need to feel free to brainstorm and erase as needed. My classroom has a white board in the front and the back of the room, but with large classes up to 30 students, cramming the entire class in the front or back of the room is disruptive to their learning. With the addition of the standing white board, I place it on either side of the classroom, or even in the middle, where 1-2 groups can use it at a time. This helps to spread out the work stations. \r\n\r\nIt may seem like a simple donation, but the donation of this white board and markers has helped me engage my students in a variety of topics through these \"Building Thinking Classroom\" lessons. My 9th graders, for example, completed BTC lessons on grammar and Greek Mythology, and my 11th graders have completed BTC lessons on Transcendentalism (at the beginning of the unit, middle, and end of the unit). My students and I are very grateful for your generosity. Most importantly, this gift will continue to make my classroom an effective BTC classroom for years to come!","fullyFundedDate":1763043727327,"projectUrl":"project/building-thinking-classrooms-in-ela/9674368/","projectTitle":"\"Building Thinking Classrooms\" in ELA","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pavao","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8055901_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1631280948126","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8055901"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44999","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":989,"numTeachers":71,"percentFrplEligible":26,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":75,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.2,"schoolId":44999,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lincoln High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lincoln High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/rhode-island/lincoln-public-school-district/lincoln-high-school/44999"}
