As the district's librarian, I see firsthand how thrilled the students are when new books are added to the library. Holiday books are always a favorite. It is not easy getting a small budget to stretch around many new titles. Your donation has been an exciting blessing.\r\n\r\nIn the school library, beyond helping students learn how to use the library and it resources efficiently, it is also my job to consistently expose children to literature and try to help develop a deep love of reading and appreciation of books. We spend much or our time simply just reading and discussing books. We also delve into important aspects of literature such as story elements, vocabulary, various author styles, genres, rhyming patterns, etc. \r\n\r\nWith the book \"Thanksgiving in the Woods,\" we utilized collaborative discussions and extension activities to explore and gain a deeper understanding of the themes of gratitude, thankfulness, cultural traditions and the sense of community. Each student compared Thanksgiving in the Woods to Thanksgiving in their home. Which in turn, allowed them to see how each of their Thanksgiving traditions varied from that of their classmates'.\r\n\r\nAfter reading \"Trick or Treat, Marley,\" we related it to how to plan a party and sequencing. Picture cards were incorporated with the preschool and kindergarten students so they could place them in the correct sequence for planning a party. One of our kindergarten students has a dog named Marley. Her dog does not look anything like the dog in the story. Even so, this student was certain the book was written about her dog.\r\n\r\nA good number of the holiday books donated are Christmas themed, so we have just recently began reading and sharing them during library time. At present, they are out on the shelves and available for students to check out and take home. The students have been doing a great deal of that already. I use the app Novel Effect to go with them, and the students get very amped up about that. Even students in upper elementary enjoy having a picture book read to them or being able to share them with younger students.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your generous donation to our library and our students. The books are being loved.","fullyFundedDate":1727959923641,"projectUrl":"project/holiday-books-for-the-school-library/8770747/","projectTitle":"Holiday Books for the School Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Knight","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9745143_orig.png?crop=256,256,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733857478937","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9745143"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_79845","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":150,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":35,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":84,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":79845,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lincoln Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lincoln Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-dakota/beach-school-district-3/lincoln-elementary-school/79845"}
