At the beginning of this school year, many of my freshmen were asking for historical fiction books, but I didn't have many, which is where your donation makes a huge difference. We just started our new quarter, and the books that you donated are flying off the shelf. I have one student who asked if I would read the same book as him so we could talk about it! I have a group of girls who are all ordering one of the books from the library so they can have their own little book club and read it together. I wanted kids to have more options to read what they like; I didn't ever think that it would turn into a sense of community as well. \r\n\r\nEvery Friday, I give my students at least 15 minutes to read in class. I have found that this is a great brain break for them. Students come in looking forward to it, and if we have to cancel it for a shortened period or something else, they are truly disappointed. So many times, high school students come in claiming that they hate reading. They don't hate it, they just haven't found a genre they like yet. That's my goal every year-to find one book or type of book that each student looks forward to reading. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generous donation, as it has really helped in building relationships in my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758805871228,"projectUrl":"project/fictional-windows-to-real-history/9619301/","projectTitle":"Fictional Windows to Real History","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Murphy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4355195"},{"teacherId":2937624,"projectId":9274567,"letterContent":"Starting over at a new school is a big deal. These series encourage students to read with greater enthusiasm, promoting consistency and engagement over time.
