During read-alouds, we focus on predicting what might happen next, identifying characters and settings, and discussing feelings and events, which helps students strengthen both their language skills and their critical thinking.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive, engaging, and student-centered. Each day, students gather together for read-aloud time, where they are encouraged to actively participate by responding to questions, repeating new words, acting out parts of the story, and discussing the illustrations. The pictures play a critical role in helping students understand meaning, especially for those still developing English. These shared reading experiences create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and expressing themselves. The books are also used during small-group instruction, allowing for deeper conversations and targeted language support.\r\n\r\nThe new texts have especially benefited students who were previously hesitant to speak or participate. Several of my English learners now confidently raise their hands to share observations, make connections, or retell parts of the story using new vocabulary. Students often point out similarities between the characters and their own lives, which has helped them feel more connected and invested in reading. This sense of connection has increased their motivation and excitement, turning reading time into a highlight of the day.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding outcomes has been seeing students independently revisit these books during free reading time.
