All of these projects tie into our life science curriculum on the plant life cycle, needs for plants, and encouraging kindergarten students to be responsible to taking care of the plants.\r\n\r\nWhen the students saw the hydroponic system for the first time they unsure of what it was and why we had it in our classroom. I had to explain to them that some plants like herbs can be hard to grow in the hot, Hawaiian sun and they can be eaten by bugs. So we decided to set up the hydroponic system inside for better plant growth. As I am writing this we have dill, parsley, chives, and cilantro sprouting up. The kids were amazed at how small the herb seeds were and how a plant could grow from them. Every morning when I opened the door they would rush over to the plants to check on their growth.\r\n\r\nThis donation has greatly supplemented our garden program for years to come. We are constantly trying to build and expand the garden program each year. We are currently working on making a native Hawaiian garden full of native species. We currently have around 20 native species and are constantly adding more year by year. We also had two after school garden clubs successfully growing taro, watermelon, basil, and legume varieties. We would like to continue these programs to help support outdoor learning for our students.\r\n\r\nYour support has played a big role in maintaining and growing these programs. It's become a cherished routine—they compare growth, point out new sprouts, and use words like \"leaves,\" \"stem,\" \"grow,\" and \"dry\" with increasing confidence. The students eagerly unpacked the soil, seeds, planters, and tools, brimming with anticipation. Their enthusiasm was unmatched as they carefully mapped out their garden plans, considering which flowers, vegetables, and herbs would thrive best in our space. It was a joy to witness their teamwork and creativity as they worked together to make our school a more ideal place.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting moments occurred when the first sprouts emerged from the soil. These moments have reinforced lessons in patience, responsibility, and the wonders of nature.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next steps for our young gardeners include creating informative signs about each plant to educate others in the school community and brainstorming ways to maintain the garden for future students. Thanks to your support, my fourth-grade students embarked on an exciting journey of creating a vibrant classroom garden, and the results have been nothing short of inspiring.\r\n\r\nThe excitement began the moment the boxes of materials arrived. My students could hardly contain their enthusiasm as they unpacked soil, planters, and the garden trellis. Many of them eagerly asked where these wonderful resources came from, and it was heartwarming to tell them about the kind donors who believed in their potential. The energy in the classroom was electric as they imagined the garden they were about to build.\r\n\r\nAs we planted seeds and carefully tended to them, the students were filled with anticipation. When the first sprouts emerged, their joy was contagious. They marveled at the tiny plants and often asked me, \"Did you water them today?\" Their sense of responsibility and curiosity about the growth process was truly remarkable. The garden quickly became a centerpiece of our STEM lessons, providing hands-on, real-life, opportunities.\r\n\r\nOur garden also sparked interest beyond our classroom. Students and teachers from other grade levels frequently stopped by to admire our progress and ask questions about what we were growing. To share our journey, my students created signs to explain the different plants and their care requirements. This simple addition transformed our garden into a learning hub for the entire school community.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are excited to complete the garden arch, which will serve as a beautiful focal point and a practical support for climbing plants. Our after-school garden club has enthusiastically taken on the responsibility of maintaining the garden, ensuring that it continues to thrive and inspire.\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your generous support.
