My second graders created beautiful cardboard sculptures while the fourth graders made \"not-a-box\"es where they had to transform their box into something else. We had everything from rocket ships to refrigerators. One of our most exciting projects has been students designing and building their own arcade games. The third graders designed their own arcade games that students of all grades will get a chance to play. \r\n\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, the excitement spread quickly throughout the school. Students from every grade gathered to explore the materials, eagerly sharing ideas about what they could create. Many students immediately began planning, sketching, and collaborating. For some students, especially those who struggle in traditional academic settings, the makerspace became a place where they felt confident, capable, and proud of their work.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our K–5 makerspace learning continues to grow. Students are now revising and improving their projects—adding details to art pieces, and testing their designs with peers. Upcoming lessons will focus on reflection, redesign, and collaboration as students learn that creativity often involves trial, error, and perseverance.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our K–5 students the tools to imagine, build, and create. These resources have turned our science lessons into an exciting laboratory of discovery. During our energy unit, students used the kits to explore how electricity flows through a circuit. A highlight was watching as groups of students explored and experimented with the tools included in the kit. As circuits began to come to life the class cheered! It was a powerful moment where they realized they could capture energy from the sun or wind to power real-life objects.\r\n\r\nThe reaction to the materials was pure magic. When we unboxed the kits, the students were buzzing with excitement as they saw the professional-looking parts. Seeing the materials for the first time made them feel like real engineers, and their faces lit up knowing they had high-quality tools to work with.\r\n\r\nThe Snap Circuits served as exploration towards understanding how energy is created, transferred, and, ultimately, becomes what powers many of our everyday appliances. They used their new books to research which type of renewable energy works best for different tasks and how it becomes electricity in our homes, schools, and city. This dive into energy, circuits, and renewable energy was a huge part in their success in creating models of renewable energy out of recycled materials and their Mother's Day circuit card.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given my students the tools to not only read about science but to actually do it. The Pocketalk translator is more than a gadget; it is a bridge. For my English Learners (EL), a simple lesson can feel like an insurmountable wall. This device allows students to record my instructions and hear them instantly in their native language. By using the two-way voice translation and the camera feature to translate worksheets, students are no longer waiting for a bilingual peer to help them. They are becoming independent learners who can participate in science experiments and math word problems in real-time alongside their classmates.\r\n\r\nThe new book bags have also been a massive hit. All of these projects tie into our life science curriculum on the plant life cycle, needs for plants, and encouraging kindergarten students to be responsible to taking care of the plants.\r\n\r\nWhen the students saw the hydroponic system for the first time they unsure of what it was and why we had it in our classroom. I had to explain to them that some plants like herbs can be hard to grow in the hot, Hawaiian sun and they can be eaten by bugs. So we decided to set up the hydroponic system inside for better plant growth. As I am writing this we have dill, parsley, chives, and cilantro sprouting up. The kids were amazed at how small the herb seeds were and how a plant could grow from them. Every morning when I opened the door they would rush over to the plants to check on their growth.\r\n\r\nThis donation has greatly supplemented our garden program for years to come. We are constantly trying to build and expand the garden program each year. We are currently working on making a native Hawaiian garden full of native species. We currently have around 20 native species and are constantly adding more year by year. We also had two after school garden clubs successfully growing taro, watermelon, basil, and legume varieties.
