When the students saw drones coming out of the boxes, their eyes lit up. There was immediate chatter around the room about what we were going to do with them. The excitement swelled within the room, and I knew they were hooked!\r\nThe students have had a great time learning how to use the drones with the remote controls. I think they have been having the most fun with the programming part. We were talking about how drones are being used as entertainment in firework shows and at different events. They decided they wanted to give this a try. We all programmed our drones to do a small \"drone light show\" and perform at an assembly at school. The kids had to work through minor bugs and glitches. They had to figure out how to start the programs to get all the drones working at the same time. They absolutely loved it. \r\nFor next steps with programming drones, we would like to create a longer show and do it at a sporting event for the community to see. They would like to tackle a longer code for the programming and add new tricks for the drones to do in the show. \r\nBeing able to give the students such an opportunity to program, but also to show their hard work off is something I wouldn't have been able to do without help from amazing donors like you!","fullyFundedDate":1731544884843,"projectUrl":"project/up-up-and-away-with-drones/8937140/","projectTitle":"Up, Up, and Away With Drones!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hodgson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp551056_orig.png?crop=493,493,x12,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725897652580","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/s-hodgson"},{"teacherId":9832839,"projectId":8935859,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support with this Gross Motor Project. With your contributions, we were able to purchase the cushion pieces that children could jump on, build with, share, and take turns on. Before starting this project, I had some awareness of the importance of gross motor development and regulation, but since this project it is becoming more real to me than ever! It is helping me to consider what children's behaviors might mean even more deeply than before. When little ones are showing signs that they may need more gross motor play, I am able to recognize that more and better able to meet that need. This is all thanks to you! You believed in us! \r\n\r\nIn one of my infant early childhood mental health classes at the Erikson Institute, my instructor has shared how in order to have the muscle strength for writing and sitting at a desk, for cutting with scissors, and doing art, we must develop the bigger muscles (starting with the core and moving outwards to the limbs then to the hands). In order for the small muscles to develop well, we must develop the bigger muscles first. With the foam cushions, our children have had great fun exercising by building and jumping. They have even developed social emotional skills by interacting with one another, inventing games, doing pretend play, and learning to wait their turn. So many amazing play experiences have come about! \r\n\r\nThe cushions have really motivated some of the children to enjoy school! Others find them very comforting and use them to take a rest. Everybody talks about how comfy the new chairs are. The new table and chairs bring such a modern look to our library. The old wood table and chairs just didn't appeal in a school library and was not very comfortable. Also thank you for the other supplies that go along with the new table for creativity.
