Traditionally, at a transfer school we are working with students who struggle to stay motivated and focused. It is being exacerbated by the way dopamine has been aggressively rewired and hijacked by social media and technology. The needs of our students only continues to grow, year by year, but it's the small things that can sometimes make the difference. Students have returned to share how much of a positive impact the squishies have had! Even alumni! A no tech throwback to sensory relief! The discussions I attempt to navigate with our hurting students in session are heavy at times, and the significance of a transitional object within that process can be profound. I plan to continue diving into the work of helping our youth heal from trauma. The sad truth is that society may look at our students and see adults, but when I look I see the children they still are. I plan to continue to tend to them as children, whether 17 or 20 years old. Trauma is most often rooted in childhood, and deserves to be handled with the same care as you would an injured child.\r\n\r\nThese kids are GRATEFUL! I am grateful.
