These discussions have helped students improve their problem-solving skills and develop a solid foundation in math.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, your donation has allowed me to better differentiate instruction, meeting the diverse needs of our students. Scheduling in a self-contained special education classroom can be especially challenging. It is important for students to be engaged in meaningful activities throughout the day, but staffing and behavior can make that difficult. Building an independent work center helps to keep students engaged and working even when a teacher is not available to work directly with them. Independent work centers also allow students to learn how to work and be successful on their own.\r\n My students have been excited to begin working on their own. The drawers and boxes make it easy to keep the materials organized and students know where to go and what to do when they get there. I will continue to create and make new independent work activities targeting academic areas (math, reading, and writing) as well as fine motor, communication, and social skills. I cannot thank you enough for the positive impact this is making on my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1726797871652,"projectUrl":"project/building-independence-through-math-and-l/8793559/","projectTitle":"Building Independence Through Math and Language Arts","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Yates","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9754124"},{"teacherId":236313,"projectId":8788632,"letterContent":"I would like to thank you so very much for supporting our grant. Because of your generosity, I was able to purchase 25 books, 1 packet of bulletin board display pictures, and a 3D globe of the world. The books are a literacy extension of our current curriculum: 'Amplify: Core Knowledge Language Arts'. These are putting books into the hands of my students; letting them dig deep and explore the curriculum not only at their own pace and leisure, but interest levels as well. I am thrilled to see their excitement and passion for reading and exploring blossom with these new materials.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes began to arrive, my class was interested in what was going on. I didn't tell them until all the books had arrived in our room. Then they were put away until we reached each applicable unit in our Amplify curriculum. With each new unit the students have a new set of books to choose from which causes cheers of excitement, bringing a smile to their faces and mine. My class looks forward to choosing books during independent reading time and gets excited when I announce we have a new unit coming up. I am glad that these books can bring such joy to my students.\r\n\r\nWith the help of the bulletin board displays and 3D model, my students are seeing the units come to life. They can see larger photos of the human body and organs, learn more vocabulary words, and relate to them in the more childlike pictures. We haven't gotten to the 3D model of the Earth in our space unit, but as excited as they were with the other books, I am sure the model will be received just as enthusiastically! \r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting our classroom and my students. One student remarked, \"I can actually see how these fraction tiles help me understand how many pieces fit into one whole!\" In English, they appreciated having physical objects to represent the words they were learning, which helped them connect better with the vocabulary.\r\n\r\nAs the year goes on, I am confident that these manipulatives will not only enhance my students' academic skills but also foster a love for learning.
