The snacks you helped provide have become more than just treats—they've become powerful tools for motivation, focus, and community building. Each week, my students now have the opportunity to redeem their hard-earned Lion Bucks for snacks, reinforcing the idea that effort, positive behavior, and responsibility truly pay off. The excitement on their faces when they first saw the Lion Cub Class Store stocked and ready to go was priceless. Many were wide-eyed with joy, whispering about what they wanted to \"buy\" first. One student even said, \"Now I don't have to skip snack time anymore—I can earn it!\" That moment perfectly captured what this project means to them. It's about more than food—it's about giving them a sense of pride, dignity, and ownership in their learning.\r\n\r\nStudents earn Lion Bucks for completing assignments on time, showing kindness to classmates, keeping our classroom clean, and demonstrating leadership. Each Friday, they can \"shop\" for snacks and small prizes, turning our classroom store into a highlight of the week. What's even more rewarding is how the system connects to real learning. Students use math to calculate how many Lion Bucks they can spend (bucks are in groups of 5), make decisions about saving or budgeting, and reflect on the positive actions that helped them earn their rewards. In addition to reinforcing academics, this experience helps build life skills such as responsibility, financial literacy, and goal setting. I'll never forget the morning a student used his Lion Bucks to get a breakfast bar before a math test—after eating, his focus and confidence completely changed. That small moment reminded me why this project is so important.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to expand the Lion Bucks system to include student leadership opportunities. Students will help manage inventory, track transactions, and restock the snack supply—building real-world organization and teamwork skills. Your generosity has created lasting ripples of impact in our classroom. My students feel seen, supported, and motivated to keep striving for excellence. Because of your kindness, they now have both the fuel and encouragement they need to keep learning and growing. Students are using the hygiene products to feel prepared, confident, and ready to fully engage in their learning each day. Beyond just providing necessities, these resources have allowed us to incorporate lessons on self-care, responsibility, and well-being into the classroom. During health and wellness sessions with the guidance counselor and during P.E., students were able to explore proper hygiene routines, practice organizing personal care kits, and discuss the importance of maintaining their own health. This hands-on experience not only reinforced classroom content but also empowered students to take ownership of their personal care and overall readiness to learn.\r\n\r\nThe first time students saw the closet, their reactions were both heartwarming and telling. Many expressed surprise and gratitude, some with shy smiles, while others immediately began talking about how the items would help them and their peers. It was a genuine moment of realization that someone cared about their well-being, and it sparked conversations about dignity, empathy, and community support. Teachers and staff will observe that students will feel more confident knowing they have the resources they need. This confidence translated into increased participation, more focus during lessons, and a sense of pride in taking care of themselves. For many, having access to these materials removed a barrier that previously caused distraction or discomfort, allowing them to concentrate fully on their academic goals.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to build on this momentum by integrating ongoing wellness education and practical applications into our curriculum. Students will participate in projects that promote organization, community service, and leadership, such as assembling hygiene kits for younger peers, creating positive signage for the closet, and reflecting on lessons about gratitude and empathy. Additionally, classroom discussions will continue to reinforce healthy routines, self-respect, and personal responsibility, using the resources in Ethel's Closet as tools for learning rather than just support items. Our next steps include tracking how access to these resources influences student engagement and confidence over time, ensuring that every student benefits fully from the program. The closet will now be organized and managed by our school's Student Council members. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are not only meeting immediate needs but also creating a lasting culture of care, respect, and empowerment within our school community.","fullyFundedDate":1746787404237,"projectUrl":"project/ethels-closet-ensuring-every-students/9200943/","projectTitle":"Ethel’s Closet: Ensuring Every Student's Confidence and Well-Being","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Miesha Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7223133_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y209&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721267225199","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mwilliams2022"},{"teacherId":7223133,"projectId":8504729,"letterContent":"Thanks to your incredible generosity, my students are thriving with their new math toolkits! These materials have transformed our classroom into an environment of endless possibilities, enabling my students to take ownership of their learning and dive into math with newfound confidence.\r\n\r\nOne of our recent math tasks involved converting U.S. and metric units.
