Students love to help with his daily and weekly care with many checking on him throughout the day. Several students often help prep his salads which are made primarily of kale, microgreens, cucumber, and peppers. As we mentioned in our project, it was a student question that planted the seed for this project - \"Why don't we grow his food ourselves?\". \r\n\r\nIt was a great question that I didn't have a good answer for. The stacking seed trays and UV light sit near Spyro's tank making it easy for students to tend to the growing greens also. Students chose the alfalfa greens as the first seeds to work on germinating and growing. So far, we've had great success! As we refill his kale salad each day, we cut some of the alfalfa greens and add them as a salad topper. He seems to enjoy them! \r\n\r\nWhile the seeds will be used up, the trays, stand, and UV light will be able to be used every school year. We also are planning to use the desert sand as part of Spyro's tank cleanout this spring. Students are excited to take part in that task as well! \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you for supporting our classroom and helping us get this project funded! We are working to revitalize the SMTE program here at our school through extracurriculars and elective courses for students. Having access to equipment like this has helped us lay the foundation for not only the program, but to allow the program to grow. \r\n\r\nAn extracurricular STEM group assisted in putting together the AnyCubic Kobra 3 printer when it arrived. Since getting the printer set-up, we have been designing and printing practical prints to help teachers and other staff in our building already. Grade level team leads are putting together requests for print files to add to our Gold Slip Cart, a school-wide PBIS system! My favorite set of prints so far are the puzzle tubes in school colors. Teachers can put items in the tubes and then students work through the maze to be able to open the tubes and retrieve what's inside - candy, gold slips, etc. \r\n\r\nOur goal is to fully integrate student use of the printer into our curriculum next school year in our upcoming STEM elective class. For the remainder of this school year, teachers will be the primary users as we work through printing all types of models and manipulatives for their various contents. Our science teams are working on fine tuning cell-models and plate tectonic models that students will be able to handle and use to get a clearer picture of these scientific processes. \r\n\r\nI cannot thank you enough for believing in us and helping us secure these materials!
