The shelves were fully stocked with snacks, cold juice boxes, and a sense of security that many of them have been missing. For students navigating both the challenges of adolescence and the strain of SNAP cuts at home, this wasn't just a donation, it was relief, dignity, and a message that someone out there cares about their well-being.\r\n\r\nWe began using the snacks immediately during our current events research project. One of my students, who normally struggles to stay focused because hunger takes over halfway through the period, quietly said, \"I can actually think right now.\" With a snack in hand, he remained focused long enough to complete his first full-page summary and even initiated a discussion with a classmate, something he rarely does. Later that day, another student who often disengages during our executive functioning activity stayed present and participated fully after grabbing a juice and some crackers. Meeting their basic needs shifted the entire energy of the room.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the shelves stocked with snacks and juice, their faces lit up with pure joy. The excitement was immediate and genuine, smiles, chatter, and disbelief that something so simple and abundant was meant for them. One student in particular, who battles intense thirst as a side effect of her medication, reached for a cold juice box right away. After drinking it, she was able to stay grounded in the moment in a way I hadn't seen in weeks. That afternoon, during our lesson on social perception, she asked thoughtful questions, made connections, and fully engaged with her peers. Adequate hydration didn't just help her feel better, it unlocked her ability to participate and shine.\r\n\r\nThese resources have become foundational to the work we do every day. With steady access to snacks and drinks, my students are better equipped to tackle lessons on communication, regulation, and real-world independence. They can stay present, think clearly, and participate with confidence. When hunger or dehydration is no longer competing with learning, their academic and social growth accelerates.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just fill a pantry, it transformed our classroom into a space where students feel cared for, supported, and capable. You gave them the fuel they need to focus, the comfort they deserve, and the reassurance that a community of people believes in their success.\r\n\r\nThank you for restoring dignity, fueling focus, and making a daily, tangible difference for my students. Your kindness is felt in every lesson, every achievement, and every moment they can finally show who they truly are.","fullyFundedDate":1763759677910,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-focus-supporting-special-educat/9891083/","projectTitle":"Fueling Focus: Supporting Special Education Students Affected by SNAP Cuts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Crowder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7952794_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1669697483721","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bridgettecrowder"},{"teacherId":7952794,"projectId":9472647,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of my project, \"A Calming Corner for Focus and Emotional Well-Being.\" Because of you, my students now have cozy chairs, soft lighting, and weighted stuffed animals that help them feel grounded, safe, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThese tools are already making a difference, students are choosing the calming corner to self-regulate, refocus, and return to class activities with more confidence and peace. Otherwise, their crystal will achieve a polycrystalline structure. While attempting to grow their single crystal, students learned about the applications of them (semiconductors, turbine blades, and lasers to name a few). \r\n\r\nLaunching from unit cells and crystalline structures, students are now investigating how these basic building blocks of solids influence the mechanical, electrical, magnetic, optical, thermal, and corrosive properties of the materials that all engineers use in their designs. \r\n\r\nWe thank you for putting the learning into their hands!","fullyFundedDate":1754672235563,"projectUrl":"project/materials-science-physics-course-launc/9538106/","projectTitle":"Materials Science & Physics Course Launch","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10112510_orig.jpg?crop=174,174,x0,y10&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754408705460","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10112510"},{"teacherId":7952794,"projectId":9583729,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my students now have access to the healthy snacks they need to stay focused, energized, and ready to learn each day. Your donations have turned our classroom into a space where students can concentrate on learning rather than worrying about empty stomachs.\r\n\r\nNow, when a student begins to feel tired or frustrated, we can offer a quick snack break that helps them reset and re-engage. This simple act has led to fewer behavioral outbursts, more participation in lessons, and an overall calmer classroom environment. We've also noticed that students are more confident about expressing their needs, knowing that they are in a safe, supportive space where their well-being matters.\r\n\r\nBeyond nutrition, these snacks symbolize care and inclusion. My students see that people outside our school believe in them and want to invest in their success. Every day, my students, especially those with autism, ADHD, and emotional or sensory regulation challenges, use it to support their learning, focus, and emotional well-being.\r\n\r\nHow we're using it\r\nThe walking pad has become part of our daily routine. Many students start their day with a few minutes of walking to help regulate their sensory systems before jumping into academic work. Others use it during transitions or when returning from classes that may have been overstimulating. It's also a trusted tool for sensory breaks, giving students a way to calm and refocus when they feel overwhelmed or distracted.\r\n\r\nStudents with autism often experience sensory sensitivities and need movement to stay regulated. The walking pad gives them a safe, structured way to meet that need without disrupting learning. For students with ADHD, it's been amazing to see how walking helps them channel restlessness and return ready to focus. Students with emotional disabilities are also benefiting, the rhythmic motion has become a grounding tool that helps reduce anxiety and emotional outbursts.\r\n\r\nTheir first reaction\r\nWhen the walking pad arrived, the excitement was immediate! Many students couldn't believe they could use it during class. Once they realized it was there to help them feel comfortable and focused, they were eager to try it. Within days, it became a favorite classroom resource, and students began requesting \"walking time\" as part of their self-regulation strategies.\r\n\r\nA classroom moment\r\nOne student who often struggles with transitioning now uses the walking pad before returning to work. His transition behaviors have decreased dramatically, and he's able to participate in lessons more smoothly. Another student with autism who used to leave the classroom when overwhelmed now chooses to walk for a few minutes instead. This small change has had a huge impact on her ability to stay engaged and complete assignments.\r\n\r\nWhat's next\r\nOur next goal is to continue expanding this sensory support system. We currently have another project posted that includes sensory tools to help students regulate throughout the day. Items like sensory seating, fidgets, and calming visuals will work alongside the walking pad to create a complete \"movement and regulation zone\" in our classroom.\r\n\r\nIf this project inspired you, I'd love to invite you to visit and support our new project. Your generosity has already made a lasting difference, and with your continued help, we can keep building a space where every student, especially those with unique learning and sensory needs, can feel calm, focused, and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1755028298097,"projectUrl":"project/walk-learn-thrive-supporting-sensory/9499764/","projectTitle":"Walk, Learn, Thrive: Supporting Sensory Needs in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Crowder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7952794_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1669697483721","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bridgettecrowder"},{"teacherId":7952794,"projectId":9499714,"letterContent":"Since adding the classroom water cooler, cups, and trash can, the impact on my students has been tremendous.
