I want to share what's happened so far, how my kindergartners responded, and what we're planning next.\r\n\r\n🚀 What we're doing with the tablets\r\n\r\nInteractive centers & guided play\r\nWe've built tablet stations into our learning centers:\r\n\r\nA letter-sound app center where students tap and hear phonemes, then draw the matching letters\r\n\r\nA shape & pattern game center where they build, compare, and sort shapes on the screen\r\n\r\nA drawing & storytelling app center where they illustrate a prompt, narrate, and record their voice\r\n\r\nSmall-group differentiated instruction\r\nDuring small groups, I assign short, leveled tasks on the tablets for students who finish early or need extra scaffolded support. It gives me flexibility: while I work with one group, others remain productively engaged with meaningful digital tasks.\r\n\r\nBlended learning & practice\r\nAt home (or during indoor choice time), students can practice sight words, counting, or emergent math with apps we use in class. This continuity helps reinforce skills across settings and gives extra practice for those who may not have access to tech outside of school.\r\n\r\nPeer-to-peer teaching & sharing\r\nI've encouraged \"tablet buddies\" — two students pair up to explore a new app together, teaching each other. This not only reinforces their learning but builds collaboration, communication, and confidence with technology.\r\n\r\n😊 How the students reacted\r\n\r\nEyes wide open, jaws dropped — that was the atmosphere when I first unveiled the tablets. One little girl rushed forward and said, \"Is that mine?\" She tapped the screen gently, waited for a sound, and grinned. You could almost see her thoughts racing: \"I can do something on that.\"\r\n\r\nA shy boy, who usually hesitates to join centers, came right to the tablet station and asked, \"Can I try?\" He tapped, paused, and when the app responded, his face lit up. He kept going, slower and with fewer prompts than usual.\r\n\r\nIn one group, a student told me, \"My tablet is helping me read the words!\" And another exclaimed, \"I drew the cat and then I made it talk!\" Their delight was immediate — the tablet transformed abstract tasks into playful discovery.\r\n\r\nStudents often glance across the room, say, \"Look — she's drawing on hers,\" or \"Let me show you how to do that button.\" They are beginning to teach one another, which is exactly what we hope for: technology as a tool not just for solo work, but for shared learning.\r\n\r\n🌱 What's next for us\r\n\r\nStudent-led mini-projects\r\nI plan to invite students to design short \"show-and-tell\" apps: pick a topic (favorite animal, family member, playground game), illustrate or record on the tablet, and present to the class. This will help with narrative skills, fine motor control, and confidence in sharing.\r\n\r\nData-driven instruction\r\nI'll track which apps and tasks students use, where they struggle, and when they succeed. That data helps me tailor small-group lessons or pick new apps to support specific needs.\r\n\r\nCross-content integration\r\nWe'll begin using the tablets in science (recording observations, photos of plant growth) and social studies (map apps, community helpers) so the devices are not \"just a tablet center\" but an integrated tool across the curriculum.\r\n\r\nParent involvement & take-home practice\r\nI'll send home suggested apps and short tasks families can try — giving students technology access beyond the classroom and reinforcing skills at home.\r\n\r\nSustainability & growth\r\nI will maintain careful charging, app updates, protective cases, and routine check-ups so the tablets stay useful all year. I may also seek to expand or rotate apps, introducing new ones as students' skills grow.\r\n\r\nThank you feels small compared to what you've made possible. Because of you, each of my 18 kindergartners is now stepping into the world of technology with curiosity, support, and joy. The tablets are already transforming how we learn, how we play, and who we believe we can become. I can't wait to send you the next update, complete with student stories, photos, and surprising breakthroughs.","fullyFundedDate":1749940015304,"projectUrl":"project/tech-for-tomorrow-tablets-to-power-lear/9343280/","projectTitle":"Tech for Tomorrow: Tablets to Power Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7658056_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746822355687","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7658056"},{"teacherId":7658056,"projectId":9330304,"letterContent":"📚 Unlocking Literacy: Accelerating Kindergarten Reading with Secret Stories\r\n\r\nProject Impact Summary — Ms. Moore's Kindergarten Class\r\n\r\nThanks to your generous support, our classroom has taken a powerful step forward in building strong readers and writers from day one of kindergarten. With the Secret Stories phonics program now part of our daily learning, 18 bright kindergarteners are unlocking the building blocks of literacy in a way that feels magical, memorable, and fun.\r\n\r\n✨ Transforming How My Students Learn\r\n\r\nWe introduced the new Secret Stories materials during the very first week of school, and the impact was immediate. The moment a new \"secret\" is revealed, the classroom fills with excitement. Students eagerly lean in to hear the story behind each letter sound, and their faces light up when they remember and apply them on their own. What once felt like tricky \"rules\" now makes sense through stories they love — and that excitement is turning into confidence.\r\n\r\n📖 Real Results in Early Literacy\r\n\r\nBecause of this project:\r\n\r\nPhonics is coming alive — students are mastering letter sounds and patterns faster than ever.\r\n\r\nConfidence is growing — even hesitant learners are participating eagerly, proud when they recall a \"secret\" and use it to read or write a word.\r\n\r\nSkills are transferring — students are already applying what they've learned in their independent reading and early writing activities.\r\n\r\nClassroom engagement is thriving — phonics time has become one of the most anticipated parts of our day.\r\n\r\n🚀 What's Next\r\n\r\nWith a strong foundation forming, we're now focused on reading and writing with independence — blending sounds to read simple words, stretching those words into short sentences, and building a love for literacy that will carry them far beyond kindergarten.\r\n\r\nYour support has created more than just access to new materials — it's created a joyful, confident community of young readers and writers. Thank you for believing in our classroom and helping my students discover that learning to read isn't just a skill — it's a superpower.","fullyFundedDate":1746785710470,"projectUrl":"project/unlocking-literacy-accelerating-kinderg/9330304/","projectTitle":"Unlocking Literacy: Accelerating Kindergarten Reading with Secret Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7658056_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746822355687","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7658056"},{"teacherId":7658056,"projectId":9150783,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for bringing Color Our Kindergarten World to life for my class. Because of your kindness, our classroom is brighter, more inviting, and full of new opportunities for exploration and growth. I want to share with you how this project has already made a difference for my little learners.\r\n\r\n🎨 How we're using the new materials\r\n\r\nThe art and color supplies you funded (markers, crayons, paints, colored paper, etc.) are woven into almost everything we do now. We use them for:\r\n\r\nLiteracy tasks — students illustrate their own emergories, draw story sequences, or use colored symbols to track sight words\r\n\r\nMath centers — coloring patterns, creating matching color sets, comparing sizes of colored shapes\r\n\r\nScience & nature — drawing leaves, animals, weather, and then labeling or categorizing by color\r\n\r\nClassroom visuals — color-coded charts, anchor posters, visual schedules\r\n\r\nFree-choice art time — letting students experiment freely with color, form, and texture\r\n\r\nBecause we now have abundant supplies, I don't have to ration or limit creativity. Students freely choose materials, try new colors, mix media, and make mistakes without fear.\r\n\r\n😊 Their reactions & special moments\r\n\r\nThe moment I unveiled the supplies, the class gasped and clapped. One child ran to pick up a marker, held it up, and said, \"It's mine! I'm going to color a rainbow.\"\r\n\r\nEven students who are usually hesitant about art approached the table, tested colors, asked, \"Can I try this one?\"\r\n\r\nIn one activity, students were told: \"Color the emotion you feel today.\" Their pages were filled with blues, reds, greens— an open window into how they were feeling. That spontaneous sharing would not have happened without these tools.\r\n\r\nIn math, a student used colored counters to solve a subtraction problem and exclaimed, \"I can see the minus sign because red ones are gone!\" That \"seeing it in color\" made the abstract concrete for them.\r\n\r\n🌱 What's next in this colorful adventure\r\n\r\nStudent-designed art projects: I'll ask students to plan a \"classroom mural\" or \"color wall\" where each child contributes one colored section tied to something they love or a class value.\r\n\r\nColor-themed lessons across subjects: For example, in science we'll \"hunt the rainbow\" outside (finding objects matching color cards), or in literacy we'll \"color code characters\" in a story map.\r\n\r\nReflective journaling with color: Students will draw or color feelings, growth, challenges, or goals using colors as symbols — building their emotional vocabulary.\r\n\r\nSharing & celebrating: I intend to document student works, take photos, and host a \"gallery walk\" in our hallway so students and visitors can see their creative growth.\r\n\r\nMaintenance & restocking: Because we now have a richer supply, I'll track usage and request refills as needed. I want to sustain this level of creative access all year long.\r\n\r\nThank you for transforming our classroom into a place where creativity reigns, learning is colorful, and students feel empowered to express themselves. Whether it's leveled reading packets, manipulatives for math, guided writing organizers, or differentiated practice sets, these resources were designed just for them — not off-the-shelf, one-size-fits-all tools. That means I can respond more flexibly, meet more students where they are, and provide scaffolds or extensions exactly where needed.\r\n\r\nBecause these materials are teacher-created, I know exactly how each piece ties into my lesson plans. I can seamlessly integrate them into small-group instruction, independent work, and intervention blocks — and the consistency helps students move more smoothly between activities without confusion or wasted transition time.\r\n\r\nA moment that made me smile\r\n\r\nI'll never forget the first day we used one of the new kits for guided reading. I placed a leveled reader, a comprehension question sheet, and story-map organizer on each student's desk. As they came in, I watched their faces: eyes curious, hands reaching out to flip pages and explore. One student — who often hesitates when handed new materials — sat still for a long moment, tracing her finger over the organizer and quietly saying, \"This looks fun.\" Within minutes, she was comparing the organizer to her story, pointing out characters, and volunteering answers. That moment — the shift from curiosity to engagement — reminded me exactly why this project matters.\r\n\r\nAnother time, during a small-group math session, I handed out differentiated problem sets created just for that day's teaching point. A student who often finishes early slowed down and worked through the extension problems, and another who usually struggles was able to complete a scaffolded version successfully. Because I had those teacher-created materials ready, I didn't waste time scrambling or adapting \"on the fly\" — the lesson stayed focused and smooth.\r\n\r\nStudents frequently ask, \"Do we have more of those?\" or \"Can I try the harder set?\"\r\n\r\nBecause the materials match their level or stretch them just enough, I see fewer off-task moments or frustration.\r\n\r\nI hear remarks like, \"This is my packet,\" or \"I like how this is made just for me\" — small statements, but full of ownership.\r\n\r\nSome students have told me what parts of a packet were hard or too easy, which helps me tweak future versions to be even better.\r\n\r\nI'll collect short reflections or sticky-note \"two stars and a wish\" from students after using each kit. Their feedback will guide tweaks and improvements — so the materials become even more responsive to their needs.\r\n\r\nI plan to build similar teacher-created supports in science and social studies (e.g. graphic organizers, question frames, mini-research kits) so our approach is consistent across subjects.\r\n\r\nI want to invite students to co-design extensions or challenge tasks. They'll help me think about what they'd like to see next or where they want extra help, which increases buy-in and makes the materials more relevant.\r\n\r\nOnce some of these kits have been refined, I intend to digitize them (if allowed) or share them with colleagues so more students benefit. I also hope to document before/after data (assessment scores, engagement measures) to show how the materials support growth.\r\n\r\nAs we move into benchmark assessments and end-of-unit tests, I'll look for whether students who regularly use the teacher-created materials show stronger growth compared to previous years. This will help me adjust pacing, intervention strategies, and future kit content.\r\n\r\nThank you often feels too small, but your support has changed how I teach and how students learn. Because of you, lessons are smoother, engagement is deeper, and students feel seen. I look forward to sending you more reflections, stories, and results in the months ahead.","fullyFundedDate":1746785476572,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-students-with-teacher-created/9328205/","projectTitle":"Empowering Students With Teacher-Created Magic","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7658056_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746822355687","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7658056"},{"teacherId":7658056,"projectId":9524634,"letterContent":"Thank you again for bringing Tidy Play, Happy Day! to life. I'm excited to share how we're using the materials, how my students reacted, and what's coming next.\r\n\r\n🎒 What we're doing now with your gift\r\n\r\nWith the outdoor storage box / deck box you funded, we've created an organized \"play depot\" right outside our door. Now when we go to recess, PE, or free play time, students know exactly where to find balls, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, and other equipment. At the end of play, they're learning to return each item to its proper spot instead of letting things pile up or get lost.\r\n\r\nOne project that's already shifted is our \"Play & Explore Rotation.\" Each class period, a small group of students heads outside to explore in centers:\r\n\r\nOne station might be chalk art (chalks are stored neatly in the bin)\r\n\r\nAnother might be movement games (jump ropes, hopscotch mats, etc.)\r\n\r\nA third might be loose-parts building (sticks, cones, small manipulatives)\r\n\r\nBecause everything is easy to access and easy to put away, we're getting more play time and less time lost to \"Where is that?\" or \"I can't find the chalk.\" The play sessions are more fluid and joyful.\r\n\r\n😊 Their reactions when they saw it\r\n\r\nI'll never forget walking outside on the first morning after the storage arrived. The students filed out, eyes wide, and one of them gasped, \"Whoa — look! We have our own toy treasure box!\" Some of my quieter students came right up, gently opening the lid to peek inside. A couple of them started pulling out items just to test the space, then closed it again carefully, whispering, \"This is going to be so nice.\" Their excitement was genuine — it felt like they were opening something special just for them.\r\n\r\nOne especially memorable moment: a student who often takes a backseat during recess grabbed a jump rope, walked toward the field, and said, \"Let's play tag!\" It was a small gesture, but it showed how having resources at their fingertips can invite more participation and confidence.\r\n\r\nGrowing our outdoor explorations\r\nWith the success of this storage solution, I'm dreaming of adding new materials (like outdoor art easels, magnifying glasses, nature kits) that will live in the same space and expand what students can do outside.\r\n\r\nThank you doesn't feel like enough.
