This project has allowed us to designate a \"gardening job\" for one student each week. I work with them one on one to teach them how to care for the plants. This week we found a snail in one of the pots and the children gathered around for an impromptu science lesson.\r\n\r\nThis center aligns with our SC science standards and has allowed us to link to social studies concepts about farming and the impact of agriculture on our community. The children have also planted pumpkin seeds and have written about the process. We are measuring the seedlings and learning about parts of the plants. We are currently watching roots develop after we put house plant cuttings in water.\r\n\r\nI appreciate your encouragement as you child shares what is happening at school. Engaging in conversations about these extra experiences make learning fun and build bridges. These new titles have allowed us to explore important literacy skills such as summarizing, making inferences, analyzing character development, and discussing theme and author's purpose in a way that feels meaningful and exciting. The updated classroom library has also made it easier to implement small-group reading discussions and independent reading conferences, helping students build both comprehension and confidence.\r\n\r\nAfter adding these titles into our classroom library my students now recommend books to each other, journal about their reading experiences, and are open to exploring titles and genres they would not normally read. Some of my most reluctant readers have discovered books they can't put down, and it's incredible to see their enthusiasm grow. One student who once said she \"wasn't a reader\" has now finished multiple books and is excited to talk about them with me. \r\n\r\nThese new books have not only improved literacy skills but also sparked a lasting love of reading that I know will stay with my students beyond our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1752169025376,"projectUrl":"project/reading-without-limits-award-nominee-bo/9363173/","projectTitle":"Reading Without Limits: Award Nominee Books for Students with Dyslexia","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Haun","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4898713"},{"teacherId":9070933,"projectId":9434878,"letterContent":"I want to sincerely thank you for your generous contribution to our classroom. Shortly after I finished setting up my area, it quickly became the talk of the school. Many teachers have shared how impressed and inspired they are by how the space turned out. It has truly become the calming place that our elementary side so greatly needed.\r\n\r\nThis space is now being used on a weekly basis, not only by the student it was originally designed for but also by many other elementary students who benefit from having a peaceful area to reset and refocus. Even when I'm away, other teachers make use of the space with their students, which shows just how impactful it has been.\r\n\r\nOur Wellness Coordinator was also very pleased after visiting the area. Although she is located on the other side of the school, she loves seeing how our students are using and benefiting from this new space.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of our little superheroes, thank you for helping create a space where they can calm their overwhelming feelings and find their balance again.
