One meaningful moment happened right after recess when several students lined up to use the station before lunch. They proudly reminded each other about washing hands and taking care of themselves—showing how this resource has already encouraged positive, responsible habits.\r\n\r\nTheir faces lit up with excitement and relief! Many students were amazed that everything they might need—hand sanitizer, lotion, deodorant, and wipes—was right there for them to use. Students will take part in short projects about hygiene, self-care, and how taking care of their bodies supports learning and emotional well-being. The new headphones, laptop chargers, and pencils have made an incredible difference in both the flow of our lessons and my students' confidence as learners.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, technology plays a major role in helping students explore history, conduct research, and build strong writing skills. Many of my multilingual learners use translation tools, speech-to-text, and read-aloud features to better understand complex readings and express their ideas in writing. Reliable laptop chargers mean they can stay engaged throughout the day without interruption, and the new headphones allow them to focus during independent or small-group work. This has been especially helpful during writing workshops and digital assignments—students can now listen to feedback, access supports, and work at their own pace without distractions.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was immediate when these supplies arrived. Students were thrilled to have brand-new materials that helped them work more comfortably and confidently. One student told me, \"Now I can finish my essay without worrying about my Chromebook dying!\" Another student who is learning English shared that using the headphones made it easier to understand historical videos and vocabulary practice activities. It's been amazing to watch their independence and pride grow.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students feel empowered, supported, and ready to learn. Students were asked to provide their own composition notebooks for the 2025-2026 school year. I knew that this would be a hardship for some students and that if the community would fund this project, we could help every student start the year with success.\r\n\r\n I was so happy when you generously donated to this project right away. I left for the summer knowing that I would be able to help my students in the fall. I wasn't worried about checking stores to try to get journals myself. This allowed me to focus on planning lessons, completing professional development and organizing my classroom. It made a huge difference in my stress levels over the summer. \r\n\r\n On the student side, I told them on day one that if they couldn't get one for any reason, you had provided it for them. They had a color choice and could start organizing the journals with the rest of the class. This journal is where we organize MOST our classwork and labs for learning and studying. Knowing that you had supported them in this way was such a relief to the students who didn't have one that first day of school.\r\n I originally asked for erasable pens for students to use in the journals. They were not available when supplies were being shipped, so I asked for anxiety sensory stickers instead. I plan to stick these to my students' folders as I identify students who need this resource. Right now, I have only found a few students who need this, but for them it will make a HUGE difference. I plan to watch the kids all year and as I find students who this will help them, I will give it to them too!","fullyFundedDate":1746492801995,"projectUrl":"project/new-journal-supplies-for-a-new-year/9259336/","projectTitle":"New Journal Supplies for a New Year!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mikels","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8846395_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1668807224036","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8846395"},{"teacherId":8846395,"projectId":9202669,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting my students' learning! These supplies helped my students in the Spring of 2025 and there were supplies left over to use with the new students in the Fall of 2025. \r\n\r\n Having new colored pencils to add important color-coded details to their Interactive Notebook (Science Journals) motivated my students to keep putting forth their best effort at the end of the school year. Additionally, I had some left that I could let this year's students borrow on days when they forgot their own. This keeps them from having homework when they forget supplies. \r\n \r\n We had run out of glue and these supplies arrived just in time for them to be able to have more glue to attach their papers into the notebook. Students were very appreciative of your generous support. It saved them time. \r\n\r\n They were very excited about the pop it fidgets, and it helped many of my students stay motivated and sit still! I used some for prizes in the Spring of 2025, when students had finished work and had put extra effort in. I still have some to use as prizes this fall.\r\n\r\n The new binder clips and paper clips allowed me to organized common papers for students in the classroom. It also allowed me to help students organize their own papers. Since your generosity provided so many, I was able to let students keep these as needed. This taught them organizational strategies that they can apply in ALL their classes. There are still some left that the students this year can use too!\r\n\r\n The students were able to borrow a new sharpie when they needed to label a new folder or journal. Often at the end of the year I have some students who move into our district and need a labeled folder for science or students. I also had students who were with me all year and needed a new folder because it had been damaged. I had folders still from another project, but I desperately needed sharpies for them to be able to label these supplies. We also used them in a lab where we needed a sharpie to draw on cell diagrams. Thank you so much for funding this! It made a difference. Organized students are successful students.\r\n\r\n I was able to use the sticky notes when I worked 1 on 1 with students. I would mark specific pages for them to complete a task (examples: add color to the cell wall on p45, correct the Table of Contents and the page titles for p31, 54, and 70, etc..) I could not take pictures of the feedback I gave them in their journals because it had their names on it. I will show pictures with my example journal of how I did this process for the students in the Spring of 2025.\r\n\r\n I am currently still able to use these supplies with my new students; your generosity is still making a difference! Particularly for my students with learning needs. I have been able to call parents, let them know what their child needs to fix in the Science journal and mark it with a color-coded sticky note so they can find it easily that evening. I am using LOTS of them, and the kids are getting more done with less frustration! I know that I have plenty because of your generosity. I don't have to worry about saving them for the neediest students.
