My students have truly loved having the opportunity to check out these young adult novels. The variety of titles has really excited them; there's something for everyone. They've been eagerly checking books in and out, and many are now choosing to spend their free time in class reading. One student told me that after reading The Summer I Turned Pretty, she got back into reading again. It's been incredible to see them so engaged and excited about books. Your support has made a real difference.\r\n\r\nThe material we read in class doesn't always appeal to students in the ways they need it to. Many of them don't see themselves, their interests, or their realities reflected in the required texts. That's why this opportunity has been so valuable. It allows students to explore books that truly resonate with them. It helps them expand their reading horizons, discover new authors and genres, and find stories that speak to who they are and what they care about. Many have been checking out books from the class library, eager to explore stories beyond our assigned readings. The accessibility of these books has allowed students to discover new interests and expand their understanding of different perspectives. \r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is interactive and dynamic. Students use the materials to create one-pagers, visually organizing their thoughts and analysis. These one-pagers encourage deeper engagement with themes, characters, and historical contexts while allowing students to showcase their creativity. Additionally, students have been annotating with color, a strategy that helps them differentiate between key themes, literary devices, and important details. This method has made textual analysis more accessible, especially for students developing their critical reading skills. \r\n\r\nTo ensure comprehension and discussion, we also use the whiteboard for checks for understanding. This allows students to share insights, clarify uncertainties, and engage in collaborative learning. I've noticed that several students who were previously hesitant about reading have become more enthusiastic, particularly when given the opportunity to choose books that resonate with their interests. Seeing them take ownership of their reading journey has been inspiring!","fullyFundedDate":1735660992098,"projectUrl":"project/help-students-fall-in-love-with-reading/8986993/","projectTitle":"Help Students Fall in Love with Reading!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Montes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9858429"},{"teacherId":9059648,"projectId":8334734,"letterContent":"I am so grateful to have had your support with this project.
